Overclocking p4 3.0 E with Asus p4p800 Deluxe

Hi guys,

I was wondering does using the Asus config with the 5% 10% 20% etc. only change the CPU speed? or does it change other options? (voltage, memory?)

Who knows what it changes. I would recommend you use manual bios settings instead of the crappy AI settings.

Search the "motherboard" forums here and you will find tonnes of info on bios settings for that board.

I have the P4P800 and recently installed a P4-3.0E (E0 stepping). I Flashed the latest BIOS. I don't know what is changed when AI OC tuner is used to OC, but it worked well for me. I suppose you could check the various settings before and after to see what is changed. I was able to run the P4 3.0E at 5%, 10% & 20% (3.6ghz). I didn't try higher, but I had no heat issues or performance problems at any of these oc speeds.

I just set the FSB to ~227, no extra voltage and it has been running at 3.4GHz for a year.

I have the SE version. I was OCing an P4 2.0A to 2.6 GHz. The AI seemed to want to set all my voltages high for a 20% OC (1.61 for VCore, 2.85 for mem)
I used manual setting to get the voltages lower.

I'm running the 30% oc (P4P800) with my P4-3.0E (E0 stepping) right now with no problem. I had only gone as high as 20% and since there was no problems, I thought I would try 30%. Right now the CPU is at 3.9ghz and is problem free. The only changes I noticed is that the Vc went from 1.45v to 1.52v and the temps at idle went up from 38c to 43c. Running TW2004 and 3dmark03 demo, the max temp I hit was 52c; this is with the stock Intel cooler. An aftermarket cooler would improve these, but I don't feel these temps are excessive. Using THG CPU monitor, the CPU always stayed at 3.9ghz.

In 3dmark03, there is a button for "Details" that provides CPU info.. I had noticed that it said the "Max CPU clock" for my CPU was 3.9ghz, so I decided to try it. I don't know if this has any significance as to how far a CPU can oc sucessfully.

FYI, the memory I'm running is Kingston HyperX DDR400 in dual channel mode.

This P4-3.0E - E0 stepper is one fine running CPU in the P4P800 mobo.

Just checked the temp and it is now 41c while on the internet.

I was getting around 40 idle and 53 on load (Prime95) with a new P4 3.2E D0 stepping at 200.

I do think that the AI will set all the voltages increasingly higher as you increase the percentage of the OC.
If you look at the AI Monitor thingy, you will notice the numbers.

I wonder if the AI setting keep the PCI bus lock at base level, or are those number increased as well. I always had a manual lock set when I thought about testing for this.

Sandra said something about my SE board having a 3.8 maximum, but I do not know exactly which reading this would be under.
