Overclocking Radeon 9700 Pro MOBILE

hello

has anyone here tried overclocking a mobile Radeon 9700 pro? I could get the core up to 460mhz and it is running stable but I want to know if anyone had any experience on this. How high could you get?

my laptop is an Alienware area-51m bte

USe ATI Tool. It will find your max OC for core/mem

Am I the only one that thinks OC'ing on a lappie is a really bad idea? You have poor cooling to begin with, and you are going to make things worse

As long as you watch your temps you should be fine. I happen to underclock (and dramatically undervolt) my laptop, but that is just so I can get better battery life. It makes some sense to OC your laptop if it is running at acceptable temperatures and you leave it plugged in all the time.

I guess with ATI Tools 3D profile ability, you can underclock for more battery life and overclock when you need gaming juice.

i don't even use my laptop for travel use, i use it plugged in all the time so it wouldn't matter... i only bought a laptop because i live in the dorms to save space and to make it easy when I move in move out.

is it worth it to invest some money on laptop cooling solutions? are radeon 9700 pro mobolity even highly overclockable?

Agreed. In my experience, OC'ing a Lappy is overall BAD IDEA. Regardless if you have the uber cooling pad that the lappy sits on. Poor air circulation within, IMO.

Are you sure you got a 9700 pro? I am not aware that there is a pro verison of the mobility 9700.
The highest I could run on my mobility 9700 was 450MHz at it's core in my 5 lb Samsung laptop.
However, it's hard to make reference since every vendor has a different version of 9700 in their laptop.

ok maybe it's not a pro. but the default clock settings are 445/250.

fyi i believe the video cooling on my laptop is pretty good. it's also removable (remember the old alienware feature that you can exchange video cards and such?)
