I've had an i5 750 overclocked to 3.81 blck 200 vcore 1.3v since Nov.. I ran Intel Burn Test 40 times and it passed. I fired up Intel Burn Test today and couldn't even run one iteration without the computer locking up. What happened? I haven't changed any of the settings.

Are you using any kind of aftermarket CPU cooler? Are you using stock heatsink with stock thermal paste? Could be something to investigate before you go adding more voltage to the chip.

What about thermal paste? If you're worried your chip has aged rather quickly, maybe remove the heatsink and apply some Arctic Silver 5.

Like I said, if you're thinking your chip is dying too quickly, adding more voltage should be a last resort. But then again, under 4 months is pretty quick for a chip to start dying.

If the machine is stable during every day operations, then maybe it's not too big a deal. Tried reinstalling Windows? Maybe it's a driver issue. What messages are you getting on your BSOD?

I used the thermal paste that came with the cooler. The temps are the same. I'm not getting BSODs. The screen just freezes.

Could it be memory? best to run Memtest to isolate the faults to either memory or CPU (or the board connection to either). If your chip is getting same temp, I'd suspect its' due to other parts of the computer.

What about the GPU? it could be faulty if screen locks up.

More bloated OS does not affect the stability of the overclock. I really am suprised that it took you that much voltage to reach that speed. My i5 750 reached 4.0 at 1.23volts....

What QPI/VTT voltage are you giving that chip @ 200 Bclk ?

My Q8400 was locking up like that when I stressed test it, the culprit was a compatibility issue between my mobo and PSU.

1.24

PLL is 1.84

PCH is 1.11

Okay good. 1.25 - 1.30 range should be sufficient QPI/VTT for 200 Bclk. As Nyker pointed out...let memtest86 run for at least 50 passes before you rule out the RAM.

Do us a favor here and list your full system specs, including your PSU, and the RAM timings and voltage on the mem sticks.

I think the corsair builder series are the less quality products from their brand, but I think it should be enough for your build. check your load temperature, use prime95 or something heavy on cpu see if your temperature is ok. maybe your cooler has gotten loose.

What about Real Temp? The temperature in Real Temp is the same as it was when I first ran the Intel Burn Test in November.

I got IBT to run 3x a lower bclk (180 instead of 200) but a higher CPU multiplier. Trying to hone in on the issue. The memory is running more slowly now and at worse timings though.

All i5-750s are not created equal. It takes 1.325Vcore to get mine stable at 3.70Ghz. Yes, I raised the VTT, PLL, and PCH voltages. I've been running it at that OC since 11/09. I also had to raise the voltage of my Ripjaws to 1.6V to get it to pass 50 runs of LinX. It still passes 50 runs.

I agree with others. It may be your ram. You have to run memtest86+ more than 1 pass, better yet loop tests 5 and 8.

Also try increasing your vdram to 1.6.

I got it to run 3x IBT Max at 3.91 Ghz blck 186, CPU multiplier 21, IMC 1.24, CPU Volt at 1.35, PLL 1.84, PCH 1.11, DRAM at 1.5V with auto timings. Working on 1.6V memory with 7-7-7-24 right now.

EDIT:
7-7-7-24 timings crashed out after about 3-4 passes.

I'm on 10 passes at auto settings for RAM and 1.5V at 3.91Ghz. Real Temp says the CPU is at 84 degrees though!
