I have updated the BIOS of my KT7A-RAID (v1.0 I?m pretty sure) to ID 64.
I plugged in an XP 1600+ and it works just fine.
I then proceeded to try and unlock the CPU as per instructions on www.tomshardware.com
Here is what I?m seeing now:
I am only able to boot if the selected CPU speed is 1600+ (i.e. 10.5 multiplier).
If I try any other speed, the PC won?t even show anything on the screen. I have to reset the CMOS using the jumper before I can boot again. Note: before the unlocking operation, I could select any speed I wanted, but it was simply ignored by the motherboard and the CPU would boot to its default 1600+.
Here is the question: is what I?m seeing a result of unsuccessful unlocking? Would the CPU work at all if unlocking was not successful? (i.e. something shorted out, not all L1 bridges connected etc). Or is it that KT7A versions prior to 1.3 are not able to run unlocked XPs at speeds other than the default?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Michael
