Carbs usually are easy to overhaul. Usually just require a rebuild kit. Unless you upgrade to a different carb then you buy new.

Honda carbs are disasters. Are there any emissions concerns? I think it's common to junk the stock carb and go with a small 2 bbl Weber. My friend is having issues with his '81 Civic too. Unfortunately he doesn't have that replacement option in CA.

It's just the head gasket unless the head got warped. Trouble is, you generally don't know if the head is warped until you tie money up in the head gasket. And if the head got toasted, yea ... you're probably looking at more than that on the internals. By that point, you may as well replace the rings and such too and rebuild the whole thing.

ALL carbs in the '80's are of the "feedback" variety, before FI became practicable they had the ECU control the metering rods in the carb, I had an '83 GM 2bbl that went bad, they wanted $500 for a rebuilt!. I bought a kit and did it myself but it never ran right with the computer hooked up to it so I just unplugged it and it ran OK. As soon as TBI FI became doable every manufacturer ditched the "feedback" carbs STAT as they were a warranty nightmare.

Or buy a JDM pull for under $500. Money better spent IMHO.

this. You can probably get that engine in in a day. So easy on those cars. D15Z1s are cheap arent they? Havent looked at the honda scene in a while.

I don't see it as just an engine swap. You're going to end up with a rebuilt motor and a whole bunch of 28 year old parts bolted to it. Doesn't it make sense to replace all the sensors, pumps, and other assorted parts at the same time?

Agreeing with the others, do not junk. I had a CRX once, and I sold it. Regret it still.

For a few grand you could drop a nice little motor in that car. Go find a totaled RSX and put a K-Series in it. Solid motors IMO, not the best trannies though.

I had a supposedly collectible car but when it comes to buying no one had the money or they offer for ridiculously cheap price.

That's familiar. I've got that same CRX, '86 HF model. Gets 40mpg all day long. Mine isn't quite as clean as that, but not bad at all. Paid $250 and another $200 for the reg. Not riced either. We put about 60k on it so it is up to 250k now. We quit driving it a couple years ago. I still run it around the block a couple times every few months. Momma really wants to sell it but I dunno. I keep thinking what if I need it someday.

I've got a CRX in the garage that just needs some work, body is pretty good, and it is unmolested.

80k original miles, I'm 3rd owner.. Anybody want it cheap?

Check CL in your area for anything similar. The $1-2k range seems reasonable to me given that it has a bad/questionable engine.

in this area a rust free roller would fetch 2k probably. So few non rusty cars from them from any mfg.

Should I be better off putting it on eBay
I'm surprised there are so many clean CRX on our Craigslist right now, they are usually half done rice, or rusted out. Wish I had the money and time to take it off your hands, I am in Reynoldsburg.

Depending on how soon you need it gone, you might be better off the eBay route, but you will definitely be able to get the 1500 locally at some point.
