Guy #1: Yea, they should only let people born in the United States be president.

ME: Ummm. . . actually Obama was born in the US - Hawaii actually - and you have to be a natural born citizen to be candidate for the President.

Guy #1: he doesn't have any experience to be president.

ME: Neither did Lincoln - but it worked out ok.

Them: Silent glare for over 10 minutes. . . .

Sigh.

(if this is 'offtopic' I'm sorry - but I imagined all the people in offtopic telling me to post it here - so I did. . . )

Glad you said something.. pleases me to know that they are old..

Feel free to do so but I hope you realize that the OP's post was about factual inconsistencies whereas your posts would be about negating people's opinions.

To the OP. I'm glad you spoke up too.

I first heard of Obama(which sounds soooo much like Osama) when my wife went ranting on and on about how horrible he is, how he doesn't even like America, doesn't stand for the pledge of allegiance, is a Muslim extremist, isn't a US citizen etc. I'm sure you've all seen the email that goes around.

At first I didn't know anything about him, this was about 6 months ago, and I knew the US citizen thing was total crap. My wife then asked me what my opinion was and didn't that make me angry that this guy had the audacity to run for president. I said "Well I don't know sweety, I don't know if that stuff is true and I'd rather not speak on something that I don't know is a fact." So she got upset because she basically said I called her a liar, go figure. Anyway, I made it a point to find the facts.

I was amazed at how far from the truth these rants actually go and how easily people will spread them without knowing the truth.

My wife then sent me the email saying the same thing and I sent her some information I had found which detailed all the information proving everything she stated was wrong. Then I told her "It's best to not spread things around about what you do not know. It just makes you look ignorant, and I don't think you are that kind of person. Find the facts first."

Now, I make it a point to point out the facts of the matter everytime someone misspeaks about Obama.

And therein lies the inherent flaw of democracy, which will ultimately be its downfall - the vote of idiots is worth the same as those of the informed. You wouldn't tolerate surgery performed on you by a collection of randomly-selected strangers, but we allow them to have a say in running the country.

LOL! she tried that once, and I think women watch to many movies.

I'm a pretty calm guy and my tolerance and patience are pretty high. She couldn't move me if she wanted to.

I just told her that I wasn't going anywhere and that if she didn't want to sleep next to me she could go sleep somewhere else, but I wasn't moving.

Now I'm not a real macho guy, but I just won't put up with that kind of behaviour. If she wants to act like a child thats fine with me, I'll treat her like and adult still, but I won't give in to childish acts.

Exactly. That's the point I wanted to make to her, but gently.

I can't believe this kind of stuff actually gets passed on and that people believe it. That worries me more!

I guess some people are content to remain oblivious and ignorant.

I had my dad, my aunts, brothers and sisters all send me the same email and chiming in on what they didn't know. Then I send and email back telling them the truth and everyone gets quiet.

My wife still hates Obama, for no other reason than she can and that's the way it is.

Well I'm technically more of an American than you, because I was born in Texas and well, it doesn't get any more American than Texas.

But isn't Alaska bigger?

Don't worry, your wife is not alone. When I told my mother I was supporting Obama earlier this year she was shocked. I asked her why and she said with a straight face, 'because he's a muslim'. I corrected her and her come back was, 'well he might not be but members of his family are'.

Hard to trust any polling in this race though, because of Obama's race. It's a factor for a lot more people than care to admit it.
