Overheated Mobo?

Hello,

How can one tell if thier motherboard is destroyed from overheating? I have an HTPC with a Gigabyte GA-8INXP mobo, and it doesn't boot. When I turn it on, I get no video, and windows doesn't boot (can tell because my router doesn't show it as a client). It doesn't even boot to the bios. So basically I am looking at a black screen. The fans all run, and there are no indicator beeps (not sure if there should be w/this mobo). The only thing I can think of is that the mobo burned up, because in retrospect, it didn't get the best ventilation in my stereo cabinet.

Any info or suggestions you could give would be much appreciated.

My first suggestion is to try a known-good high-quality power supply that's got enough wattage to power the system. That won't take long to try, and will reveal whether the original PSU has kicked the bucket, in which case it's an easy fix.

I'm running an antec in there right now. But I'll take my enermax out of my main machine tomorrow and see what happens... I really hope that is the problem. Though I have that oddly shaped powersupply that fits in the antec overture case which will probably be a bitch to hunt down.

Antec's 3-year warranty should have you covered if it does turn out to be the PSU. If the PSU doesn't turn out to be the problem, then it could be the mobo did fail... do you have another P4/Celeron rig you can do some Dr. Frankenstein testing with?

Yeah, I'd use the working system to test the memory, video card and CPU, one at a time, to confirm what works and what doesn't. And then you could use all confirmed-working parts on the questionable motherboard to nail down whether it's dead or not.
