Overheating Notebook

I have a pretty old Notebook 2.6 Ghz 700+ MB ddrRam 64 MB Ati Grapihics etc. etc.

And... what's your question? You should really provide a bit more information.

Anyways, to help with the overheating, blow all the dust out of the vents with compressed air. You may also want to remove the keyboard and/or palmrest so you can access the internals and get them cleaner.

If that doesn't work, your best bet may be to remove the heatsink(s) and replace the thermal interface material with something better - AS5 or AS Ceramique are safe choices.

Anyways the Laptop is overheating is so much, It shuts off in 1.5 hours of continuous usage. My question is:
I am stuck in a place where I don't think I will get a new Laptop fan much less Heatsinks or coolants.Finding Compressed Air is also out of the question. I am in a small small town in India... So what do I do to cool the piece? Any DIY ideas
Also anybenchmarks I could run and confirm that problem is due to a fan/heatsink and not just due to such configurations that I stupidly selected. Also any motherboard monitors to tell me the motherboard temperatures..?

That's a manufacturer issue. Nothing you can do. I've seen the same notebook come in four times for overheating. You're SOL, buddy, sorry.

Not much you can really do, aside from checking if your laptop was recalled. Can't exactly pop on a larger heatsink and/or fan on a laptop. You could take a ghetto approach by getting one of those laptop coolers, which is basically a laptop stand with one or two fans inside for better air flow -- that might help.

DL The service manual from HP and see if you can take out the HS and check to make sure it is clean and reaplly some articsilver one the HS

Ahh, I have the Compaq AMD version of that notebook. Very good notebook, but overheats easily, yes.

What I did was scrape off the white crap they plop from the factory and used some arctic silver. Now it doesn't overheat.

Oh, and clean out the fans while you're at it. You could have dust clogging up the heatsinks.

About the most you could do for it would be to get a laptop cooler...and I guess from your post you dont seem to have the availability of being able to get one.
