Overriding password in windows 2000 Pro

Hey guys,

My brother gave a computer and said he can't remember the password (he has ADD and have a hard time remembering anything).

The computer runs just fine, but we can't logon.

I have windows 2000 CD but no boot disk (he never made one up).

So, my question is, how can we override the password (is this even possible?)?

I would like to reformat the disk and start from scratch...any ideas on how can we overcome the logon problem?

There are applications and directions online for resetting the admin password, just do a search on google.

However if you just plan on formatting and reinstalling you could just format the thing outright, you dont need the admin password to do that.

After three hours of trying, we finally figured out the password.

if it ever happens again, here's a thread that gives a link to a bootable cd iso that will allow you to reset the password to anything you like.
