I think you may be making a fatal error when playing with Genji. See... Genji doesn't work as well in pub games for one very specific reason: Genji is more of a glass cannon. He does NOT do well going up against a team by himself or even a few players (unless said heroes are weak against Genji). Genji (and arguably Tracer) tends to thrive when your team can take the enemy's attention away from you. It also really helps when your aim is good as Genji's damage is kind of slow and steady, but also very precise. You also need to attack from a distance, which makes it harder.

Of course, if you're Seagull, you can probably ignore what I said about avoiding 1 vs 2+ fights.

EDIT:

Yeah, solo queue is pretty meh. As I mentioned above, I'm not keen on the lack of communication.

I've never gotten it work...i've tried but never heard a peep from anyone else, have been using ts3 or discord

Am I the only one joining Team voice chat channel, hearing nothing, and at the end of the match there's apparently 4 or 5 players 'leaving' said channel... but I heard absolutely nothing? Either they've obviously simply said nothing (then why joining the channel to start with?) or there's something wrong on my end. I do click the headphone icon by the way, and voice chat is of course activated and the volume should be alright in the Sounds options.

I think people tend to be rather quiet in the chat channels until someone starts talking. If I see about 3+ people in the team chat channel, I'll normally say something like, "Hey, everyone!" I did that one match, and one guy was so surprised that someone actually used voice chat. Overall, the problem is that people are growing so accustomed to never talking in voice chat that even when presented with the opportunity (if they even know others are there), they don't use it. I mean... I've noticed that there are times that I forget to call out something even though I prefer using voice chat.

Yeah no one seems to talk on PC. I kinda like how since consoles people are forced to voice chat.

Lmao. It's been better nowadays. I remember 10 years ago when it was rare and people would freak out hearing a girl in Ventrilo.

Personally, I've had a few females use voice chat on my team and so far, there hasn't been any reaction from teammates about them being female or any kind of abuse.

Overall, Overwatch has been a pretty laid back experience so far. Rarely see someone pissed off about losses and blaming their team. A couple of guys I know from StarCraft asked me to party with them and we wrecked our opponents with a Reinhardt + Mercy + 4 Genjis. Even the opponents were laughing about it and it got me seven votes at end (still don't know what they do). Usually when I kindly ask a teammate to switch a hero to something else, they'll likely do it. Good experience so far.

Yeah, I've only seen an instance or two when someone (on my team or the opposing team) acted in a super weird, juvenile or inappropriate manner because there was a girl on my team. Most people may think, "Oh, hey... cool. Let's play!", since they don't run into females too often, but it's not a big deal. After all... we're all there to play!

That reminds me of a game I got into. I was in a 5-man group doing attack on Watchpoint: Gibraltar, and we left spawn to a very interesting enemy group composition: six Mercy. Even after we switched to Pharah, they still stuck with it, which was not a pretty sight for them. During our defense phase, we wanted to mirror that, but the sixth player was being a little ponce. He ended up going Bastion, which kind of ruined it as our enemies went six Zenyatta. I got tired of simply letting the Bastion (who complained about us wanting to mess around with the team that was messing around) hog all the fun, so I went on attack Mercy! My favorite part was probably when I jumped down from the shuttle and pegged the Zenyattas while floating down. Mercy, the Angel of Death!

One match on Defense, we had two guys fighting over McCree, I switch too just for fun (intending to do it just till 1st death). All of a sudden, my whole team consists of McCree. We run to the enemy spawn. I guess they saw us through the doors because they had four McCree's as well when they running out . HIGH NOON. Both teams ended up playing the whole round like that. (We lost).

You have to like those games where you choose a hero that you don't always do well on, but you do well that game. I chose Hanzo for a Temple of Anubis defense match, and my gameplay on Widowmaker or Hanzo tends to be a bit spotty. As is usual for Anubis, we lost the first point, but I was pingin' enemies and landing some good ultimates. Man, I was unstoppable... until a Pharah came in. Now, that doesn't sound all that bad as an arrow or two can easily take her out. Well, that would be true if I didn't miss about 10 in a row. After dying, I just said in match chat, "Well, that was embarrassing...." One day, I'll be like Seagull! :'(

That sounds like it'd be fun! I've been wanting to initiate plan "We're all soldiers now!" for a while, but I'd need a six-man group to do it.

We had a 6 man Soldier 76 pug group on Gibraltar a bit ago. Was fun as hell and we steam rolled the other team. Healing stations and Concussion missiles everywhere.

I am getting so ****ing tired of seeing people parrot that around I'm about to lose it. 21:9 is no more of an advantage over 16:9 as 16:9 is over 4:3. Either EVERYONE should have black bars or NO ONE. Period.

Completely incorrect. 16:9 is the standard and has been for years. They aren't going to give the 1% of people with a ultra wide monitor a competitive advantage like that. Dota 2, Sc2, CS GO etc... are all the same way.

If you want competitive 21:9, find a game that supports it and recruit 11 friends to play it with yourselves. If you bought a 21:9 monitor for online multiplayer you made a bad decision.

Interesting...

How Overwatch Became a Rarity: The Troll-Free Online Shooter

http://www.wired.com/2016/05/overwatch-the-rare-positive-shooter

I really hope their scoreboard ideas take root in other shooters. I know a lot of people in the BF4 community kept asking to have objective based modes drop the KDR on the scoreboard like overwatch has. I think it focuses people on objectives and keeps the toxicity down as people can't bag on people who have a worse KDR (not to mention the useless people who camp to protect their precious KDR)

A week in and already almost burnt out. This game needs to be played with friends. These pick up groups where there is zero communication and people not filling needs gets old REALLY fast.

This is why I am hesitant to jump in. A friend has it on PS4 and raved about it but that was a week ago. Does he still feel the same way? I'd have to ask him and I dunno if I would like it over time. This is what happened to me with Titanfall and was afraid I'd have the same experience with this. The hype is tempting me because a lot of people really like it, but like you said being alone most of the time, which I expect I may be, is lame.

Regardless I am playing the final Witcher 3 expansion now and that will occupy much of my time for a while.

Solo queue is definitely not an ideal way to play. I think they could (and hopefully will) improve the in-game communication tools though. I like the radial menu but aside from "Group up" and "Ult status" it really isn't terribly helpful - personally I keep voice chat disabled entirely since I'm usually on Ventrilo playing with people and don't really bother toggling it for the few rounds I play without them.

The competitive play should be out by the end of the month. It should help a lot getting games where people actually communicate and actually play as a team. If you're not terribad you should outrank those sorts pretty quick. That said it is better with a group. I play with my clan most of the time (not OW specific) Plus you get 20% more xp as a group.
