You're all welcome. It's nice to be loved.

Just FYI, I used DiscWizard last night to perform a backup and it worked like a charm under Vista Ultimate.

What version of TI is it? I already have TI 9 Home.

And can I use the wizard to create an ISO?

TIA!

Wait, it get's even better. I was trying to answer the question about which version of True Image this was based on (which I still don't know) and I clicked on the "Powered by Acronis" graphic in Help/About in DiskWizard.

That took me to a special Acronis website for a 40% discount on an upgrade to the full (non-OEM) version of Acronis True Image 10 Home.

PriceGrabber.com shows the lowest price for the physical disc of True Image 10 Home as $39.97 not including tax and shipping. There are probably OEM versions of True Image 10 Home floating around the Web for close to the $29.99 offer via the DiscWizard link, but this seems like a special added sweetener to get 40% off the full version simply by downloading free software.

Also includes a BartPE plugin to create emergency bootable CD's.

One thing I don't like about Acronis TI9 is the 3 background processes and it appears that these wizards run the same programs. However, unless you plan on doing daily backups you need only install it once, create a BartPE CD, and then uninstall it. Then just pop the CD in once a week or so and boot to it and you get the same GUI anyway with the same options.

Seems like a limited version of Acronis. But since I only make full images of my drives (not incremental or differential), it doesn't really bother me. As long as you have one Maxtor or Seagate hard drive, you should be able to backup a drive from another manufacturer. Also, according to the site, Seagate DiscWizard works with Maxtor drives, and vice versa - so I'm guessing they're the same program with different names.

Awesome! You just saved me 50 bucks because I was just planning to buy TI 10 (can't use newegg from Canada)

Thanks!

it did not detect my seagate drives!

I guess it does not do raids?? I have a mirroring raid.

I'd like to thank Seagate too!

I've stuck with them, over the years, even when everyone said they sucked -=- since the 80's actually!

So, thanks to the OP and Seagate too!!!

I try to forget those days, they sucked.

Just a heads up to current/prospective users of this: be sure to check the recovery disk. I can make the backups fine but the recovery media won't recognize my Seagate drives and refuses to run, making the backups essentially useless. There are potential ways around this but they are long winded and annoying.

So does anybody knows if it works with RAIDs? Also did anybody tried the upgrade to Full Version of TI11? Does the full version TI11 works with RAIDs? Or with different hdd's, like WD?

It's not a question of 'does it work with RAIDs' or 'does it work with xyz drives' - it's a question of 'Does the boot media include a driver for my HDD controller'? If the answer is no, it won't see your drives, RAID or otherwise.

There are plenty of workarounds for this (BartPE being a key one, where it's fairly easy to add driver support for your HDD controller brand/model), plus the new TI11 has support for far more controllers natively.

In any case, try to boot with the CD first and ensure it can see all your drives before relying on it as a recovery solution.

Those with PATA IDE drives shouldn't need to worry too much. Those with SATA drives and RAID setups should be especially careful to check/test first.

Forget the recovery disk ... I have 3 Seagate SATA drives in my main system (2 x 320gb 7200.10's in RAID 1 & 1 x 500gb 7200.10 stand-alone) & the POS software refuses recognize any of them ... all I get is a message saying its only for use with Seagate or Maxtor HD's along with a link to the Acronis website.

For me at least this free program is worth every penny I paid for it!
