Own a WRX? Look inside

I'm really torn between a used Audi (99-00 A4Q 1.8t I think) and the WRX. The WRX will cost me slightly more, but both have AWD and the Audi's interior appointments are nicer, as well as the exterior styling. The WRX will win performance wise stock, but I also plan to modify.

So WRX owners, what do you have to say about the comfort of it? I'm 6'4" and I'm not a small guy. The Audi's I know are comfortable, I test drove an '02 S4... Loved it but didn't love the price

Quality of the interior appointments? How do you feel about them? And have you done any mods?

Post any pics or stories here!

That being said, the A4 versus WRX is a weird choice. Do you want power of luxury?

WRX is ugly IMO

Audi is a Volkswagon

Have you seen the new Passat W8 the V8 model... I'd look into it

do you really need AWD? what about an altima 3.5se? faster and more comfortable than both of those.

One of my best friends has a silver turbo charged WRX wagon (just slightly larger than the sedan) and it hauls ass big time!

I've only been in it twice, everything seems normal interior quality wise but the Audi would definitely have a better interior.

Do you want luxury of an Audi or the best bang for your buck power and fun of the WRX?

I'd choose the latter, save some $ for mods.

i love people who tell you to get cars they like when you dont ask for it..

i'd probably get the audi and chip it, get a nice performance gain, and save up for a bigger turbo..

wrx is nice though.. also easy to bump up its performance.. i suggest you test drive both one after the other.. and see what you like ..

Actually Audi is an Audi and the W8 is a W not a V.

The WRX wagon is probably the one of the best vehicles around today. It's roomy, it flies, and it looks pretty cool. Also has a nice stock stereo system and you can't beat the Momo steering wheel EXCELLET car!

divinemartyr: I own a WRX. I love it. I was not looking for anything luxurious but something comfortable and powerful with awd because I live in New England. The interior is fine. Except the cup holder feels like it could easily be broken off. The seats are very comfortable and keep you in your seat when you take those fast corners. There are many preformance mods for the the WRX. Not so for the Audi (Someone please correct me if I am wrong here). Check out the impreza club at I-Club . I would also try to find a similar site for Audi owners. Ask questions on these sites and you will get plenty of feedback.

In the end, it is what you like. Buy what makes you happy. Maybe I will see you on the road.

Not so for the Audi.

*Snicker*

The 1.8t engine is one of the greatest aftermarket tuneable engine ever made! Between APR, Nuespeed, and about 20 other companies that specialize in VAG aftermarket, there isn't hardly a part out there that you can't replace on these cars.

If the audi is cheaper to begin with, then the choice is simple IMHO. Buy the Audi, dump about $300 for an APR ECU swap, and you'll be running a pretty quick car. Not as quick as the WRX, but still respectable.

Oh, and the poon factor of the Audi is something the WRX will never be able to even come close to

Ok, then. You are wrong. vi_edit hit the nail on the head. A $400 chip ($500 for the 2000+ models) will net you 50hp and 80ft-lb of torque. Easily, the best and most cost effective modification on the market today. Or you can go with APR's Stage III upgrade package, which will put you at 310hp and 330ft-lb of torque.

Ahem - how does the Passat even enter into this? A $40,000 family sedan with mediocre performance (thanks to its mandatory-in-the-U.S. automatic) like that does not belong in the same category as the two cars he is considering.

Go with Audi for the above reason.
