Holy crap! 1.67!?

Jeez, that thing must be an insane flame thrower! My CPU stays at 1.26v.1.28v with 100% CPU load 24/7 (for almost one year).

I'd say it's a good CPU if you live in mommas basement (free electric & minimal cooling rqrd).

BTW I haven't read TH for over 4yrs...

110(3150/2000)(1.53/1.325)^2 = 231 watts

110w is the TDP of the 170, not the power consumption...

Actually, 110 is the maximum theoretical power consumtion of the cpu (AMD design spec). TDP will vary between each cpu. The TCaseMax utility will show the TDP of the AMD cpu in question. Here is some pretty good testing as usual from spcr: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article313-page1.html

One of my Opteron 146's has a TDP of 44 watts. The max theoretical power consumtion is 89 watts. I OC it to 2750 MHz @ 1.5v. Using the calculator in the link above I come up with a power consumption of about 70 watts which seems to be a very reasonable number for a 1MB L2 AMD cpu, going by the spcr review (see page 5).

Interesting to see an X2 4800 with 2MB L2 at 1.37v at 2.4 GHz consumes only 87watts at full load. Also interesting is the uber-wattage consumption of the intels........

Those are the Wattages i found, if you got more accurate numbers please show me.

My point was that TDP isn't a wattage at all, it's a guideline for thermal solutions.
For example the Venice 3500+ (2.4 GHz) has a TDP of 67w, but it runs at ~30w under 100% load!
Isolated CPU Power test

I agree that there is a real lack of power number reviews out there, but using the TDP is like pulling a number out of the air.

The numbers given by AMD for their chips vs. the numbers given by Intel for their chips are not comparable

AMD gives their wattage as the max of their line of CPU's (such as all the venices, 3000, 3200, 3500, etc..) have a max of 89w, but the CPU's don't go near that max

Intel gives a wattage for each CPU in that line, but under a 'typical' setting, so a 820D @ 135w doesn't mean 135w under full load...

Best way is too look for actual power consumption measurements at some review sites TechReport's SYSTEM Consumption
X-Bit's CPU Consumption

in reply to the guy on the first page of the thread that said an 805 with all that stuff would blow away AMD fanboys. He never came back in defense of his statement but I think he was being sarcastic. if you notice all the parts he listed were UBER expensive and would be a flame thrower as you called it. He also has a massive opteron rig in his sig...

I think you just got your chain's jerked...
