I'm interested in the 975x board, because I know I can get more outta this chip, plus there is a decent possibility of Conroe support when it comes out as well. Plus I'll have still spent less on the 920($264) + P5WD2-E premium($230) than my X2 system 4200+ ($420) + DFI ultra-D ($135). It'll run at 3.7ghz on the stock heatsink, and while it's still hot as to be expected for a netburst chip, it still runs cooler than my 830 did at stock speeds.

You have to have the right version...Povray does have an smp version...I ran it and compared my times with single cpu and multi cpu....

Like shown here

Comparing the none SMP version is not as cut and dry cause my P4 w/ HT did better then my X2 at 2.6ghz which was worse then my 3000+@2.7ghz which was still not as good as the p4 w/ HT....

I would run this new version and see how it does...

Technonut, Where in the heck did you get that board for 140??? I find that a reasonable price considering I bought my Neo2 for that much about 15 months ago......

the thing I am not overly impressed with (even beyond worthless apps like superpi IMO (not smp aware) is that my cinebench score is the same now at 2.6ghz X2 ....I dont see getting much advantage in CASD performance. I also wouldn't run water so is 4.2ghz going to be a gimme???

I think I will wait for the conroes and sit where I am at now.....I dont think the X2s are going to gain much with a socket change....I may get an opty now and try to push for 2.8ghz on high end air.....Sounds like that would be comparable to the presler at 4.2ghz and I wouldn't have to get a new board, ddr2 ram, and pci-express card yet....Right?

I think for me the presler would not be much of a autogk advanatge because it is quite clear by my cpu usage numbers I am I/O limited now....I need to wait for more optimised apps or spend a lot of money into a better HDD system.....

Nonetheless NIce OC technonut (like usual)....Please do keep testing...This is a great option for many right now at that price and so this is informative...If I didn't have a sckt939 system and needed to get new mobo, ram, etc...I would likely get a presler...I am a sucker for bang-for-the -buck....

CrAzY! OC man. I'll admit to saying that I like AMD over Intel but I have to say that Intel def. has the best CPU out right now, not even considering that AMD can't run DDR2 yet. So IMO Intel is head and shoulders over AMD....but not for long hehe

This thread almost makes me want to blow my savings and get the same setup. Nice work man!

Duvie: The mobo was a refurb I picked-up on Newegg... I must have lucked-out @ $140.00 since I have seen recent refurbs @ $150.00...

As for 4.2GHz a given on air.... I don't know.... I suppose with a heavy-hitter all copper HS / 92-120mm fan it may be possible. I really want to throw this 920 under my VapoChill PE, but I am concerned that it may be too much for my PSU. I am running a PCP & Cooling Turbo-Cool 510, but it is the older version with no 8 pin connector. I am running with only (1) 4 pin P4 power connector along with a 24 pin adapter, and an adapter for my Radeon. Plenty of juice and stable now... but with the VapoChill, who knows.. I do not want to take my rig down by finding out either.

I tried running the SMP POV-Ray, but it comes up as an expired Windows version when executed... I will run 3.6 and post the results until I get the beta working.....

I ran the 3.7 version back in september 05....I am unaware it was a trial version with expiration date of Jan 1 06....May want to make sure the reghistry is free of any pov-ray refernecs even if they are the oolder 3.5 and 3.6 versions

Please run it on the Vapochill when you can. I have a single stage and i was just speculating if a 920D would run 5 Ghz stable on it...

oh and nice results

I am thinking about powering the VapoChill with a separate PSU to do a few runs... Stay tuned.. I would really like to see 5GHz myself, but with a VapoChill PE, I would not bet the farm on it.

EDIT: I will be posting some other benchmarks soon... I have been busy with video encoding lately, and have been getting into how damn fast it is going with this rig...

I used to have a vapo PE, was a great unit. Ran for months without a hiccup. Was a poor decision to sell it in hindsight.

They have a 775kit for it or do you have to "get creative"?

Update.... I am now running @ 4.3GHz. Here is the Stability Money-Shot

I think I will call this one a wrap on mid-end watercooling. A 1500MHz OC is not bad at all IMHO, and the RAM is quite snappy @ 924MHz DDR2 (4-3-2-4).

yes we need to know stevty's bad dead core could have come from voltage.

Yeah, but more likely from me taking a soldering iron to it trying to do the BSEL mod.

you going try to send it back for new one?

Nope. I won't RMA something that I damaged myself.

Due to the ASUS V-droop, I have to set the BIOS to 1.45v to get 1.36-1.375v. (Both cores @ 100% load) Not too excessive for 4.3GHz IMO...

Yeah, thats not bad at all. I still don't think 1.475v was too much, but guess I'll never know for sure.

Congratulations ! I hope some of the newbs here will read this, the ones that RMA anything that dies for any reason. This is an example I hope gets followed.

Yeah, I was getting a similar droop on my Asus board. 1.475 was giving me about 1.38v under load.

That is some SERIOUS memory bandwidth my man.... nice job. Looks like those 65 nm Intel chips have better potential than their previous generation. DDR938! OMFG!

Sorry, missed the update. Boy, the latencies on that RAM are unbelievable too. DDR924 is still incredible.

Thanks.. I edited the original post quoted above... Should have read 928MHz, not 938.....
