I agree. I'd rather not be too reductionist about the very good points he brings up, but one could also describe it this way:
Hard times create hard people <--ww2
hard people create soft times <--post ww2 awesomesauce (if you were a cis white male anyhow)
soft times create soft people <--boomers
soft people create hard times <--we are here

So much of it seems to come down simply to numbers. My grandparents were apparently 'lost generation', my parents were 'the silent generation' and I'm Gen-X. All of those are products of 'baby busts', periods where the birth rate dropped, so three generations with fewer numbers interleaved with generations that were marked by increased birth rates. All of those baby-bust generations are marked by not having much influence as a generational group.

Reminds me of a review of the book "The Fourth Turning" by William Strauss and Neil Howe which characterizes 4 specific generational patterns. It's been on my reading list for a long time.
