Australia is a mysterious place. The Guardian loves including Australian stories on the main site with very little clue as to what country they actually relate to.

Whenever I find myself reading a story where nothing seems quite familiar, everything seems oddly skewed, with familiar place names ('Perth') but unfamiliar events related to them, and a strange mixture of UK things but with US spellings ("the Labor Party"?) and scandals about politicians I've never heard of, it always turns out it's actually about Australia. Gets still more confusing when they refer to things as "Victorian" yet they don't seem to be that old, or when I see NSW and mistake it for NSFW.

Edit - not surprising they shot "The Matrix" movies there. Like it's _almost_ the real world, but something's a bit "off".

...though at least the Australian accent is recognisable, unlike New Zealanders, who seem to constantly shift from Americans to Australians to cockneys, often within a single sentence. Took me ages to realise those "viva la dirt league" guys were actually from NZ.

It's like when I was a nine-year-old wishing to be one of my heroes! I drew pictures, I drew cartoons, they were hockey players and it was me in the pictures. But this shit, I just don't fucking get it…

I asked my Preacher Friday what he would do if given one of “those bibles”. He didn’t have an answer other than everything about that Bible is wrong, constitution in it is wrong, cost and where that money goes to is wrong and something about the edition that I forgot is basically the lazy interpretation (I forgot his exact point). He is going to try to have an answer on Sunday. I’ll follow up.
