I have three cousins in Australia, of which I've met all of them. Two first and a second. I posted this on my FB and tagged them - how accurate was this.

Two responded, and said well, kinda not at all. Nothing here is quite as fucked up as your country lol

heh - according the the map, I live in Louisiana... good food and even better music! However as much as there are differences in the accents of Australians (and driving habits - Sydney drivers are the worst!) across the states, Australian's tend to be much more uniform in their politics and expectations of their politicians than from what I understand of the American red/blue states discussions.

And yeah I can confirm that "Nothing here is quite as fucked up as your country". Perhaps because one fact - we don't have royalty in Australia. It seems a large portion of Americans loves to put ordinary humans on pedestals. When you had your Boston tea party you really didn't take the right lesson to heart.... just sayin'

important to remember that at the "tea party," the participants dressed as Indigenous Americans because of course they didn't want to actually be punished and hoped that if anything, the British would cast their violence away from the holy white people. ...so no, there really was no lesson for the tea party that is different from today: Americans are pussies that are perfectly fine to escape all responsibility for their actions, especially if it can be turned to scapegoat an oppressed and displaced group of "others"
