Not that I really care, but having read other discussions about it, it seems that "the Nazis" she was referring to in that context was some specific group of domestic neo-Nazis, not the historical Nazis.

I guess she was making that "let the Nazis march through Skokie" "as long as they don't break the law" free-speech argument (that I don't know that I agree with either, but it's a common position in the US).

Madison's local population is more liberal than the university population. The students come from all over Wisconsin and the state is much more conservative than Madison.

The city itself is probably more liberal than UW students as a whole, to some degree. Students from WI are only around half of the student body though. You are definitely correct about the rest of the state though. It's why most of our state legislature is red (that, and the worst gerrymandering in the country).
