I had a scheduled bike ride in the city the day Biden won and it was an unseasonal 70 degrees in November. I was walking the dog home just before heading into the city and one block away from my place I heard a victory scream just coming from someone's house I was walking by at the moment. I immediately checked my phone and saw the news. got home, grabbed my bike, went into the city. I transferred trains to meet my friend by Prospect Park. Holy fuck, the city was magical. It was a party in the streets, people just smiling, cheering, crying. I got shivers and shed some tears. Saw Chuck Schumer do a little jig under the Grand Army Plaza arch.
Riding through Brooklyn to Manhattan the city would just randomly erupt into cheers, cars honking, people smiling at each other, giving the thumbs up. I remember stopping at the water on the west side greenway. This guy was walking towards us, and every 30 second or so he would just play one of those horns like a clown would play at a circus, and everyone sitting on the grass would just spontaneously cheer and clap. It was magical. I think it was the most magical day I have spent in the city to this day. I cheered my heart out until my voice was scratchy. I knew the road ahead would be a shit show but just knowing that piece of filth would not be president was such a beautiful life event, and I got to share it with millions of people in one of the greatest cities on Earth.
Will always treasure that day.
