P180 case build question?

I am about to put my new P180 together. I see that in the lower drive cage that the HD's sit vertical instead of the usual horizontal position. Is there any data that this is good or bad ( or indifferent) for the operation or MTBF of a hardrive when a HD is positioned this way?

This has been discused many times. It makes no difference which way the drives are installed. This will be posted somewhere on the manufactures website!

If it affected the drives at all Antec wouldn't have put them in that orientation.

Not to mention the numerous other case manufactures that do this. In fact, all three of my cases have verticly mounted hard drives (Antec, Lian-Li, Kingwin). As long as the drive is mounted well and does not move it is "indifferent" to it's position.

i've mounted a few hdd's in there, and so far, for the past few months, no degredation of either performance or data has occured.

I have a WD Raptor in the lower cage, and can barely hear it.

I just finished a build with this case and am happy as hell! Beige is no longer part of my color scheme.

Just one thing I noted while using the lower drive bay, don't screw in all 4 screws tight!!
First, have your drive sitting the right way up, use your finger to screw both screws in as far as possible. Now, Lift the drive up with your finger, and do another 2~3 rotation with your finger. Screw in the bottom screw too, but don't have them touching the pads. This way, your drive is virtually "suspending", and this pretty much elimintates ALL sound coming from my noisy Diamond 9 and 10

Yeah it shouldn't make a difference in theory, but when I put my drive in there it started making an AWFUL racket, and I started noticing problems with it, so I moved it up to the horizontal drive bay and the problems slowly worked their way out. My guess is that there is a flaw in my HDD anyway, and the vertical slot just made it worse, so here is to waiting around for the drive to fail. *smirk*
