How well does this case quiet down a computer. Will I notice a big difference? I just bought one 1st because it looks awesome and I wanted a new case, 2nd because of the noise dampening I have been reading about.

I have this case on the way right now. You mentioned dampening. What have you read that works well in this case? I'm interested in the same thing. I want this thing to be quiet.

This article goes over some of the noise dampening features Antec has implemented into this case. Also if you go to the Antec website they have a video about the features of the P182 and they try and let you hear how quiet it is.

Im interested in getting this case aswell so any info from someone that owns one would be good.

One more thing, ive read that you need to be careful what PSU you order as the MB Power Cables go from the bottom and round the back you need to ensure that it reaches. So any info on what power supply would be good aswel!

I just finished building my new PC with a P182. For power supply, I'm using the Corsair HX620. For motherboard, I have the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P. Now, there are 2 power cables that need to be plugged in from the power supply to the mobo. One is long, and the other short (not the cable, but the plug itself). Excuse my terminology

Anyways, the long power cable fit in very nicely. I sent it through a hole right next to the power supply, behind the motherboard, and out about 75% of the way on the other end of the case, where I plugged it into the motherboard. The smaller cable, however, literally has to go from one end of the case to the other, but I got it to fit. It's a very tight fit, but it works, nonetheless. I also was able to get the regular power cables to go to the other end to power the two top fans on the case as well as my DVD drives.

I also bought the GeForce 8800GTX. The video card is VERY long, and requires that the middle hard drive section be pulled out. This is fine, because there's another hard drive section at the bottom near the power supply where you can add (I think) 4 hard drives. That should be enough for most people. This also opens the opportunity to have a fan blowing directly towards the video card.

If you guys want, I can take a picture of the inside of my case to show in greater detail how it looks, in case what I said above doesn't make any sense

I have a P180 v2 (like the 182) and an Antec True Power II 650 watt PSU and an Abit AB9 QuadGT motherboard. I found the aux 6 pin connector was a tiny bit too short to run behind the motherboard tray but a $4 extension to that cable solved that issue. That was my only gripe about the case and it was $4 to fix (I ran the line directly up the front of the motherboard until I had the extension).

Between the case, a switch to water cooling, and having the motherboard lower my fan speed to ~7v at idle I only hear a subtle hum from my computer... not really noticeable as fan noise.

I am using a new Seasonic 550w. The top power cable won't reach going behind the motherboard...it was a struggle getting it around my tuniq tower 120 in front.

Also, for the life of me I cannot seem to figure out how to secure the hard drive into the middle cage. The small drive rails don't line up with the screw holes in my seagate barracuda 320gb...and even if they did, it doesn't seem to slide in like the DVD drive did in it's cage. Is there some newb mistake I am making? Right now the drive is just sitting unsecured in the cage on those rubber standoffs...figure that can't be ideal.

Pics would be nice. Also could you maybe list the order of things you installed everything. I plan on doing a similar build and wouldn't mind know the optimal order of installing the parts. Thanks.

I have the P180 v1.1 (P182 interior) with the following parts:

Antec True Power 480W
DFI LanParty 939 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
1GB DDR 400
2 IDE HDs
IDE DVD Burner

The most difficult part is actually finding an IDE cable that is long enough to reach the hard drive cage on the bottom of the case. If you're using SATA, it will not be a problem, but routing SATA cables in a neat and clean fashion will not be easy; be creative and be patient.

All of the HD slots as well as the PSU cage have rubber fillings to reduce vibration, thus filtering noise.

The 5.25 slots use rails like many other cases. Motherboard tray is not removable. There are plenty of room to route cables thru the back of the case, and the back has everything you need to neatly tight your cables. The top HD cage (below the 5.25 slots) does not include a 120mm case fan; you have to buy an extra one and install it yourself.

Most time consuming part for me is planning on how to route my cables and wires to maximize airflow. Most cables are routed thru the back of the motherboard tray, some small ones are routed below the motherboard and some are routed on the surface of the motherboard only because of length reasons.

There is no real proper order in which you have to assemble on the P180/P182 case. You just assemble it like any other cases. Routing cable should be your priority, however, if you choose to be neat.

I have built 2 P180 systems recently with the new 182 styled interior. The first system was an e6420 with TR Ultra120 extreme and a XFX 7950GT XXX (fanless) video card. I used the fan from a Scythe Ninja (that's fanless in my solo) for the U120 and the case fans set to low. The case sat next to my desk on the floor and the only noise was a low whoosh from the air turbulence. It got lost in the background very easily, even when not playing any media.

The 2nd system is a e6750 with TR U120X and an evga 8800GTS 640MB. Fans setup the same way, and there's a bit more whooshing due to the 8800. The tonality is also a bit higher pitched with the addition of the 8800. Still not annoying and much more acceptable than any machine I had with smaller fans.

The real trick to quiet computing is to build a complete system geared in that direction. My hard drive is pretty damned noisy, but it doesn't bother me because I don't do disk intensive tasks where I need/want quiet. You need that, get a Samsung drive. Other than that I made a point of getting quiet components, especially on the fanless 7950. I'm thinking of going with the fanless HS for my 8800, but the 8800's fan has yet to noticeably wind up. The U120 does a great job of cooling the CPU with a low speed fan, I can even hit 3.8Ghz on my e6750 without bumping the fans up, all I have to do is not use the 8800 .

If you have a noisy rig, this case is not going to change that. It may change the character of the noise, it may muffle it some, and fire the bulk of the noise out the back, but it'll still be noisy. The panels are sonically quite dead, but that gives you a case that doesn't accentuate the noises being made inside, not a case that hides or muffles them more than a small amount.

edit: Forgot to mention, both systems run on Corsair 520HXs. And yes the aux power cable can be a pain on some mobos.

The case is fairly quiet... the Antec Fans are not the greatest... i would recommend runnning them on low or medium. One problem i found with this case is that it is kind of cramped. It isn't deep enough for my needs... I just got rid of my P182 for the Coolermaster Slack 830 Evolution which is much bigger and should fit my thermochill PA120.3 rad on the bottom. If you want to put a rad in the P180, it will have to go on the outside.
