p2p file sharing issue with firewall @ work

ok....my problem is that at work i connect through the pre-existing LAN.....i have no control over their servers b/c it is actually a completely different company that set them up and runs them, they just let the company i work for hook in....but n e ways.....i have been trying to use a p2p file sharing program but they never seem to be able to connect, due to the firewall on the server i'm assuming.....is there a way around this?....socks4 or 5 proxy the answer?.....and if so....how do i find out what it is?.....thnx

It sound like they have the port that your p2p software uses blocked. If thats the case, there is nothing you can use to get by it because the port is being filtered out by the firewall. Unless you have seperate firewall admins. Hmmmmmm maybe some doughnuts would get them thru :Q

sometimes there is a "I'm behind a firewall" solution in the program. Another question, where is the problem: can you not download or connect or what?

I have messed with firewalls before and if there are certain ports blocked (those used for p2p sharing for example) there is no way to get around it. Especially if your firewall admin knows anything about security.

I am assuming that your LAN adimin not only has you behind a firewall, but also behind a proxy... Either way, you can look into tunneling programs... Do a google on HTTP Tunneling and Proxy Tunneling. You essentially remap your tcp/ip stack to take requests on one port(Kazza Ports??).. and send them out on another port (80) to a tunneling service on the internet, which then sends to and recieves from the destanation all the while passing and taking data from your client over port 80. Last time I set something like this up was 1 to 2 years ago & it was a pain.

Exactly. At my work trying to circumventing the firewall would be grounds, for at minimum a suspension. Not to mention piss off the Firewall admin (Me).
