Anyone else do this? or care about P3 OCing for that matter?

Finally got my P3-1000 up to 1200, suspect it could go a bit higher but dont really want to press my luck.

Setup:
P3-1000
MSI 6337 (815EP Pro)
256mb Mosel Vitalic 7ns (running 160 2-2-2)
GlobalWIN CAK-38
GeForce2 MX

Vcore is 1.8v and VIO is 3.4v - 96F idle and 110F full load

just wanted to share

Hey I am still using P3 coppermine/BX (700E@1008MHz). Man, that is some fast SDRAM you got there, 160 2-2-2! I thought my Mushkin 150 3-3-3 was fast...

Hey can you tell me what stepping is your P3-1000 (cc0 or cd0)? Also is that a FC-PGA or slot-1? If you have the S-SPEC please post it and where you got the chip from. Thanks

Yep i have done it but didnt see a big performance increase over the 155 i run at now. I have had it to 165 with 333 timings but wasent stable.

I've also got a PIII 1 GHZ @ 1.2 GHZ. I'm using a CUSL2 and Mushkin REV 3 at 2-2-2-5/7 at 160 FSB. I had to be agressive on the voltage though>> 2.0V. About 4 or 5 other people at the CUSL2C.com forums have gotten their 1 GHZ chips up to 1.2 GHZ(and some even slightly beyond).

The REV 3 is some very good memory. I now actually have the memory running at 2-2-2-5/7 at 166 FSB...using a PIII 733@913. Very stable...been continuously looping 3DMark2001 for about 24 hours now.

What kind of Sandra memory scores do you get? I usally get around 486/565.

That is a mighty fine OC. That RAM looks like Mush rev 2 .....is it?

The RAM is Mosel and labeled -7. Not sure of CPU stepping and dont really feel like taking the rig apart to check. I will run sandra memory bandwidth tests soon. Voltage core is 1.8 and IO is 3.4

temp is 98 F idle and 116 - 118 F full load.

Cheers,

C'mon u got a CAK-38 thats the reason u got there in the first place. Stay there if u want to play it safe.(i would) Ur good with that HS. That HS was my third choice. Don't worry unless u have poor case ventilation and if so fix it. Make sure its seated correctly.

I have pretty good case ventilation.

92mm front (intake)
80mm rear (intake)
2x 40mm bay cooler (intake)
120mm blowhole (exhaust)
and of course PSU exhaust

Its not sealed but it does ok.

Working on an FC-PGA 1000 right now. Can't get it past 1125 on an ASUS with stock HSF. Running Prime95 it gets up to 45C/113F and crashes. Idles at 33C/91F. Mushkin Rev 2. Maybe I need that WBK-38 that fried the mobo in another machine on this guy.
New question: What's the highest safe temp under load a PIII/FCPGA can handle??

havent seen anything official on that. I *think* its around 150 F. I have had a T-bird at the 150 range and most mobos CPU temp alarm default at around 150. ive seen screenshots of BIOS screens in manuals showing high 140s.

if you think the CPU is overheating and you cant go over 1125, if you havent already tried upping the voltage to the core and ram I/O, i dont go over 1.85v core and 3.5v I/O, but as always you smoke it then its your own damn fault, no one made you do it.

A good rule of thumb for voltage increase is dont go more than 10% over default.

hope that helps. If you have any other questions you can post or email.

OK, I took out all but one good -- to 150 MHz -- stick of Mushkin. Really dicked around awhile just getting to Windows. Tried everything 5,7 then 7,9 no joy. Finally pushed it to 1.8 and am now running Prime95 and writing you at 41C/105F. Am at 1125/150 FSB still with the stock Intel HSF. I wonder what it would do with a good Peltier from Swiftech? I thought the old days of O/cing with just one stick or RAM were past. Apparently not so or at least more than one should be matched.
Just tried 2/2/2 at 5,7 and running fine at 105degrees F. I don't know how to make a degree symbol. Do you think this is a safe temp to run at consistently under load?

That is a great temp to run at under full load. notice I have only 1 stick of RAM in my P3 also. Get a decent HSF on there and you will probably be at or around 100. I have a WBK-38 brand new for $20 if you are interested.

Well, in an earlier thread end of last week, I related my sad experience with a WBK-68, the little brother to the WBK-38. I was trying to get a PIII 750/100 to run and bought the WBK-68. I took off the retail Intel HSF and put on the WBK, plugged it into the MB header and turned it on. Zap! Nothing. Fans spun, but no POST, no disk activity, no video. Nothing. I took my MB to the Mom & Pop shop where I purchased the WBK-68 and they confirmed, yep, your MB is dead. So...I think I'll pass on the WBK-38 with an even bigger fan. At least the 750 is OK, just fried the MB.

Yes, went up to 1.8 and now at idle (turned Prime95 off) it's at a nice cool 31C/87F. Wonder what it would take to hit 1200?!!

Marine, don't be a chicken! Slap that WBK on that PIII and hit 1200!! Go buy another MB if you fry this one too.!

I never plug those Delta black label 7000rpm fans into the mobo, always use the 4-pin converter. My brand new WBK-38 comes with said adapter. HSF has never been mounted or powered.

Actually, I haven't a clue...that is to why my MB chose the exact moment I plugged in the WBK to die. Maybe an anomaly, maybe fate, maybe the HSF, who knows? Anyway, I'm looking at the Swiftech MC-370 as it's garnered lots of compliments on the mounting system.
Gump, good on ya 1200 is pretty swift! There's life in the 133a chipset yet. I have a Tyan running that and it's very, very stable. I had to use a slotket to O/C with any success though. Super overclock and congrats. I'll stay at 1125 for now and when I get a better cooling solution, try again. But I do have to say, the stock retail Intel HSF that's still in place has done a very credible job. There are probably several aftermarket solutions not as efficient.
