P3 1gig or cel 1.2 + mobo

I have P3 700 on asus CUSL2 mobo and want to upgrade.
Being on limited budget I almost decided on P3 1G for $245.00 (CAD).
But then I found this mobo ECS P6S5AT (SIS 635 T chipset supports
tulatins and DDR ) for $65.00.
If I buy that mobo plus Celeron 1.2G for $180.00 I'll spend
the same money and I may have shoot at 1600 mhz.
Now does anybody have ECS P6S5AT ,will it overclock ( can I adjust
Vcore and fsb), how good it is overall?
Secondly which celeron to get I think should be Malay but I need
more info.

I would try the MSI 6337 LE5, it is only about $15 more. It has fsb adjustments in 1MHz increments and an 815 chipset. The ECS gives you options of 133Mhz or 117Mhz, so if you don't make 1600Mhz you will get stuck with 1400. Another cpu option would be the Celeron 1GHz Tualatin. It has a 10 multiplier instead of 12, so 10 x 150 for 1500Mhz might be more realistic and perform better than 12 x 133 for 1600Mhz. It should be able to overclock about the same, although Oldfart has one and seems to be having trouble reaching 1400Mhz. Maybe he can jump in and let us know how it is working.

Either is a good choice. If it were me, I'd gamble with the Celeron just because you might get it up to a high speed.

You might also consider an Athlon XP and a SIS based motherboard, which will cost about the same as the Celeron upgrade, and offer superior performance at stock speed.

The prices are in CANADIAN $ , I realy like to go with XP 1600 but cant afford it now.
Also I cant find any celeries 1g t.

I was in somewhat the same dilemna (except i had to get a new system going) and got a choice between a Celi 1.2ghz, and a I815 board of a 1ghz Duron and a SIS board (which was even a little cheaper), and i opted for the Duron system, and it works pretty good. STable, although slower in some aspects to my P3 900 and BX board

The CUSL2 is a good motherboard. I'd suggest just overclocking your P3 to 933mhz, if you have a cB0 or cC0 stepped processor. My cB0 stepped P3 700E can do 933mhz at 1.65v and 980mhz at 1.75v.. If you have the stock intel heatsink, you should probably get a better one (the heatsink was only designed for the 800mhz or less P3s). A good, cheap, nice looking Heatsink/Fan for a P3 is the Golden Orb.
