I scrounged aorund out university's surpus store and found the 2 computers, 1 which will be a gaming server, I'd liek your suggestions which one to choose for the job.
PC A:
Compaq Proliant ml350
1x P3 tulamine 1.26 ghz (512kb cahce) @ 133mhz bus
1x P3 ???? @ 1.0 ghz (not sure other info on this chip atm)
4x 512mb memory @ 133mhz
3x 18.2 GB SCSI HDD (will RAID 0 it) with SCSI Card
PC 1:
2.2 ghz Northwood A (512kb cache)
1GB DDR memory @ 400mhz
1x 40GB HD
I am not sure for a 2 core computer that you need to have 2 of the same CPU or not in order for it to work? I'll try to find another P3 the same as the other one but I would like ot know if they are different CPUs that the computer will run.
Windows XP will be on both, the game on the server will probably be SWAT 4 or Counterstrike or Natural selection. Obviously the HDD speed kicks butt on the slightly old P3 though the bus is kinda slow and the difference in PCU speed it pretty significant but maybe not so bad due tot he 2nd processor.
What do you say? Which one will be our lab's new game server?
