THe 733s with 256 cache are going for about $60. THe reason the 700s are so expensive is becasue those in particular(the models on the websites) have a meg of cache and ,if my memory serves ne correctly, are quad-capable. The 733s are definiately not.

Come on...The existance of this thread is just a demonstration
of ignorance...P3 700Mhz Xeons are EXPENSIVE. These aren't the
same as standard Coppermine Xeons. They have MUCH more cache
(512K, 1Mb or 2Mb depending on the particular processor) and
are VERY expensive. Are they overpriced? Certainly...Intel prices
these for the enterprise market...

Now, $2100 is NOT a good price on the P3/700/1Mb Xeon, but that's
what happens when you get an HP "branded" Xeon. Still, $2K is
not an uncommon price for P3/700/2M Xeons. Hell, I sold a couple
of them on eBay for around $1600 each (open box) just a couple of
months ago.

The way to buy these $$ Intel processors is through Intel's Engineering Sample Program. You can purchase most Xeon processors at 95% of the list price. The only catch is that they sell them in quantities of two and you may receive a phone call from a local business trying to sell you CPUs. The only difference between the engineering samples and the OEM and retial chips are that the engineering samples have "Intel Confidential" stamped into theto of the plastic casing. The engineering samples also are not locked so they can be overclocked. the only requirement to purchase from the program is a valid company name. the program is run much like Microsoft's programs where a lot of the participants are "virtual companies"
