P35 to P45 = reformat

I'm thinking about upgrading from abit P35 chipset mobo to asus P45 chipset mobo, do I have to reformat my hard drives? I have a raid 0 running on the P35 mobo. I hope not!

You can Google "changing motherbords without reformatting" if you need more.

I've done it in the past without reformatting, but still prefer to reformat. Others do it all the time without reformatting.

You NEVER have to reformat hard drives for a reinstall. If you do try a repair install and it doesn't work then you can boot with a windowsXP/Vista live CD and rename your windows/program files/my Documents folders and then reinstall windows and then you still have all your information/pictures/files for future use.

you should probably reinstall windows anyways, it is good for you to do so every now and then.

Why? I haven't reinstalled for probably 6 years including many hardware changes and dozens and dozens of software installs, updates and uninstalls. It performs as well as the day I installed.

You can get by without reformatting, but I usually don't. I always use an upgrade as a good time to install the newest versions of all my software, clean out old files and pictures etc., and so on. It is usually just easier to spend the time, that way you have the latest device drivers, software versions, ans I swear to God a fresh install feels faster even if it ain't
