P3V4X, GeForce and Vortex2 hate-triangle.

Has any one else experirnced lock ups with this combo? When I first ran into problems, I put each board in 1 by 1. (Keeping PCI VGA drivers throughout). When everything worked, I installed Detonator 2 and the PC crashed. So I thought it was the M/B and the GeForce. Now I've come to find out that it is probably the sound card. I has newest Aureal/Turtle Beach drivers, but wanted the rear speakers on my quadzilla so installed drivers that support them, then BANG - as soon as something tried to use the sound card, I locked up. Has anyone else seen this or have a solution that allows me to use 4 speakers?

I just put in my new ASUS P3V4X last night and have been getting constant lockups. The sound card is definitely the culprit because that's what's causing mine also. I have a Diamond MX300 and if I install it, as soon as Windows (98se) comes up and makes that first sound, it locks up solid every time. I'm also using the latest drivers but they don't seem to help. I had to pull the card just so I can use my computer. Hopefully we can find a solution to this.

That's strange. I have the P3V4X board, and an MX300, and I never had any trouble at all.

Thats why you need to have a SBlive, P3V4X, TNT2 love triangle like me. Maybe you should update your bios settings for the P3V4X, the latest i think is 1.0005 or something close to that. I know a 5 is in there somewhere. Also there are two revisions for that board rev1 and rev2. The rev1 has an older ics clock generator and some small issues that may be the root of your problem.

I finally solved my problem (well, most of the way there) - I Talked with Turtle Beach and they said it was a "known issue" with Aureal Vortex2 chips. The guy said that the latest drivers fixed this (didn't help much with mine, though) and that there would be new drivers for the Montego2 (i.e. 4 speaker support)by the end of this month or early August. Of course, when I yanked that card out and my system worked well, I just went and got a SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer. Now sound is sweet and the system is booting.
However my Geforce still locks up whenever I'm playing an accelerated game. I can't get the damned VIA updates to install just right - the 4-in-1 drivers don't seem to take, and I have no clue if the AGP update is working. Furthermore, I can't uninstall the AGP drivers. Arggh. Do I have to reinstall windows AGAIN just to get these drivers to take?

Khan99 - What drivers are you using for the MX300 and what BIOS are you using for the P3V4X? I've tried the latest drivers from Diamond with no luck. I'm currently downloading the latest reference drivers from Aureal to try. My P3V4X is brand new and has the 1005 (latest) BIOS. If the new drivers don't work I guess I'll be picking up a SB Live tomorrow.

Good news! After installing the latest reference drivers from Aureal I am no longer having lockups and the sound card is working perfectly. Anyone else who's having this problem just needs to install these drivers.
