Those Q plant chips always seem to hit a max
here +/- 1 or 2fsb.

Hope this is an exception.

well since you and I are quite similar for our chips at prime95 load at roughly the same mhz (give or take a few fsb) does that mean you can do 3.33ghz as well??? I only say that cause the fact remains idle is significant still....At the math for your chip you wuold have to run your chip nearly .1v higher to get it to be the load vcore I run at 3.33ghz. Are you telling me you would feel safe with an idle vcore of 1.78-1.8v????

The fact is some boards are better...I think those boards that minimize the vcore swing from idle to load seem to be better ocers...My epox 4g54a had .1 to .12v flux in vcore. Not a very good board...My epcx 4bda only had .06-.05v and it was very good. the only exception ofcourse wopuld be if the 12v line was equally large flux or extremely low as that could be the reason for the vcore flux...

I am saying I don't think we can disregard idle vcore yet in terms of safety...i would need to see some scientific data and not gut feelings... In terms of comparison of chips it is a great comparison. remember there are several areaso ftesting in prime where the system flies and vcore goes back closer to idle and temps drop. I will still be running themunder 1.7v while it would be likley you would be over 1.7v for those (still under 100% load) while attempting 3.33ghz....

Nice to see you join the 3.2ghz club!!!

Congrats Thugs!!! Looks like a winner of a chip!
By the way, I agree with ya, scddr is long gone for me. Otherwise I would be on an Abit board... hehe.

PJ ~ youve been on more motherboards then anyone else in last 2 months.....

comparing other boards to asus;

does the vcore differences/fluxes make a difference in overall overclock?
if so, by how many mhz/fsb? 1? 2? 5?

Well, my problem in being able to give any answer is hindered by the fact that I have had 3 cpus as well. I would say that my sl6ef (the last one I had in) was doing about 3-4 fsb more on the IT7 m2v2 than on this Asus... Now, was that because of vcore flux? Can't say... could have been a chipset thing or any setting in the bios that may vary on boards.

And by the way, are you making fun of me... Don't make me cry.... hehe...

By the way, I was way impressed with Abit and the IT7 max, that has given me the desire to be first in line for their Canterwood board.

pj,you notice on the IT7 Max2 V2 that its harder to run tighter timings on this board compared to otherss?.If I run 1:1 at say 385FSB at 2/2/2/7 the memory is not stable but I can run stable at 2.5/3/3/7 at 458DDR.It should do 2/2/2/7 385DDR no problem.I know on the 8RDA+ I had no problems and even ran tighter timings over 400DDR.This is with the OCZ PC3700 EL.

LR,

IIRC, I had no problem running it at 2-2-2-7. That was my limit up to about 430 or so. I had to run 2.5-2-2-7 above that. It has been awhile though. I do know that I did not have to have the timings as tight to have better scores that the other ram I had at tight settings.

who in the hell is trying to get you to go back to scddr??? Not me....I am just saying just cause it doesn't look good on your board means you can discount it. All I am saying when you have a tight 12v line and the vcore still swings large from idle to load there may be something to read from that....The fact is at 3.22ghz you need 1.55v being delivered at load, right??? It passes right??? well on my board you can likely do that with 1.61v actual and still have .09v to play with in a quest for higher oc...you can likely on moy board get another 3 to 4 fsb...Will that counteract the kick-ass memory scores you see??? Not likley but who said I was saying that either!!!!:|

Now if you discount my last few sentences are you saying 1.7v at load is now what you are concerned with and not idle voltage??? remember when I damaged one my idle was 1.83v but under load and using asus pcprobe that would fall as low as 1.72v under load...

I have the same setup..

Asus P4G8X Deluxe
2.4b SL6EF Pack Date 2/7/03

Memory is different. I ordered 2 512 MB PC2700 sticks from Crucial.com, and I recived Samsung chips

I am currently running 172 FSB stable. I have booted into Windows at 180 FSB but would crash after
a few rounds of Sandra burn in.
As far as I can tell its the chip holding me back and not the RAM. After going to 170 FSB I changed
my RAM settings to 2-2-2-6, although I think setting the timings does not do anything on this board
once past a certain FSB speed.

I tried upping the voltage for both CPU and RAM but it didnt seem to help get me anymore FSB speed..
I am however very happy with 172 FSB, especially since I am using 2 512 sticks of RAM.
Oh... almost forgot, I am using the stock Intel Fan/Heatsink so I saved a few bucks there.
I am about 40c idle and 50c or so full load.

Since I upgraded from a 600 MHz PIII I am VERY happy with my current setup... now its time to buy a better video card.

Peace
Rich

Duvie ~ i didnt say any of that

what i am saying is that you would have to put your chip on a p4g8x to find out if there actually was a difference in overall overclock, thats all.

np jeff ~ just list what youd want and need from the board, and youll get plenty of suggestions from everyone.

i pretty sure i can speak for most of us posting overclocking threads here ~ yes we run these speeds 24/7.
