I'm running a P4 2.4 w/512Kb L2 on a P4G8X with 2x512Mb of Corsair XMS DDR400 memory.

Currently I have my FSB up to 170Mhz with Vc set to 1.55V, the AGP and DDR voltages are at stock. I have been running at these settings for a couple of weeks now. The machine will run Prime95 all day long as well as serving my surfing and gaming needs without any issues. I consider it rock solid at these settings.

Here are a few questions:

1. How high would you estimate I could take the core voltage with the retail Intel HSF (note, under full Prime95 load my CPU temp is about 131F according to Asus Probe utility).

2. In the BIOS, do you have any idea what exactly the "Memory Turbo" feature does?? I have it enabled and according to SiSoft's memory benchmarks it makes a small difference. Just wondering what it does.

3. Do you know if Asus' current 1004 beta BIOS release fixes the memory timing setting issue when overclocking?

My 2.4B also stuck at about 2.88GHz , also from Malay.

Can post at 3.06 and boot into windows, but not too stable. Tried 1.7v but no help. Bad luck.....

Maybe my Epox 4BDA doesn't run too well with high FSB.

Just another example which shows there is no sure thing in overclocking, but 160 isn't all that bad.

Yoshi ~ i dont reccommend using the retail HSF for any overclocking.

turbo mode enables 1T command timing.

Asus will most likely never fix the cas settings.
youll have to use wpcredit/wpcrset.

I agree with that...I agree that some of these older i845d and some e and g mobos likely can be the culprit...my 4g4a will do 170 at default vcore (3.06ghz), but not any amount of vcore or vdimm or cas timings can get it to stop having little crap out errors in programs...prime95 runs solid for 6 hours, memtest passes 10 passes and prime loops for 1 hour....It has to be timing issues and the chipset assoc with this mobo...

Now for thugs it is likely the cpu....You see a progression of needing more vcore to just ending...

Now for oldfart he hits a wall as well...so in his case it is either the old i845d chipset or the cpu (used) that he bought was damaged by original owner ad now it is sensitive to vcore adjustments...

Duvie, weren't you running 170+ FSB on your 4BDA? I think this CPU is junk. I'll find out once I get a new 2.4B.

I am seeing some signs that many seem to have week ocing with C1 chips and i845d and even some of the e and g chipsets...this could be cause some are at 170fsb level like mine and may be just a mobo limitation but some are getting 150fsb and hitting wall...

makes me wonder if there is something more to the c1 chips then die size change....

I need to check but I have 6/2002 biops and there may be a newer bios but I think it was fdor new celeron support.
