P4 2.4GHZ chip in the Dell 600SC server

Hey guys. I was one of the fortunate ones who got in on that Dell PowerEdge 600SC P4 2.4ghz SCSI HD deal. I'm curious about something though.

Is this chip HT enabled? I really don't know jack about the P4's since I've been running AMD lately. I know something like 2.4+ chips have HT, but is it enabled and does the motherboard the dell come with support it? Or is there a way to turn it on? How signifigant is the performance boost?

I think only 3.06 ghz ones are ht enabled...but I'm not sure

Yeah, i was confused about that at first, but if you read Intel's site, they are only for 3.06 ghz and above . And apparently this has been on chipz for awhile , just not enabled.

Thanks guys. I remember hearing that previous chips had it on cip, but I didn't know if they were just waiting for motherboards who support it, or if it you can't enable it at all.

If it's a Xeon, it should be HT enabled even at 2.4GHz. If it's a vanilla P4, you're out of luck.

I read on some o/c'ing site a while back that you could "unlock" hyperthreading in your plain old p4, but I remember it involving soldering of surface mount resistors across processor pins.... not something I have the stones to try
