Congrats. OMG, that such a sweet overclock, you must be like the 2nd person on this forum to hit 3.4+ with the SL6S2. The other day I was at my local pcclub picking up a can of compressed air, and I saw they had a tray SL6S2 on sale, omg, I think I should go get it now.

i did ~ my board seems to give less of an overvolt (.025v less) then other p4g8x boards.
im only running 1.6v bios which equals 1.648v idle.

i ran 1.625v (1.67v idle) only out of curiousity, and for the sake of the thread of course.
these chips get very hot running this fast ~ adding vcore only makes things hotter and for very little result.

new IMHO: 1.65v idle max on C1s, or youre gonna deal with some serious heat above 3ghz

Get a BH7 and you can overvolt without the worries

Does dual channel DDR give a 'noticable' increase in speed? Or only in benchies?

what would be the point of "supposedly" being able to overclock it farther on a BH7 if my scores will be worse?
granite bay is much easier to deal with and gets better scores

besides ~ recently a very well respected member had an "incident" with a BH7, were still waiting on the police report on that one

Well... the phase change cooling phase changed his CPU
Personaly I think it was the cooler, not the motherboard... you ever see what a cold winter day does to auto engines?

I'll wait for the GB prices to decrease before I'll buy one. Considering the only games I play are Starcraft and Star Wars Rebellion, my main computer is really overkill (1.6 Williamate @ 2.336GHz, plus a secondary 2GHz celery @ 2.88GHz). The only reason I have these fast computers is to crunch away on SoB for TA .

I was not using phase-change... I had a MCX4000 HS and TT Smart Fan 2 installed. Before that a retail 3.06 HSF. I only had the Prometeia installed on the 2.53 for a short time. I ran other P4 and AMD processors on the Prometeia 24/7 before with no issues at all just like many other users, including EPoX

If I were to make a guess, I would say it was a voltage regulator malfunction on the BH7.

:Q

I'll have to think twice about Abit in the future... but then the only viable option for me is Asus :disgust:
<--- Wonders if I should switch to Albatron?

Maybe a Albatron Springdale/Canterwood
Hmmm . . . compared to Asus Springdale/Canterwood
Now that would be an interesting review

Thugs - Next review ????

How the heck did you get a 1.6 Willamette to oc to 2.33ghz????? That would be a record as fas as I have seen...Most northwoods when they first came out could not do that....

Edit: Willamette is a river that runs through the middle of downtown Portland, OR and then merges with the Columbia just north of downtown on its way to the ocean....

Yep I have heard of that....But just like the reason for the shift to the northwood core many said the willamette was really limited right past 2ghz....I am just wondering what type of super cooling and voltage he may be using....This was clearly not the norm or the northwoods would not have been the cats meow when it first came out...

Made me decide to back off on mine a few.

Now set at 181fsb @ 1.575v Bios (1.616v actual).
Can't tell the difference except in benchmarks anyway
and it runs a couple of C cooler.

Hi guys,
as a lurker reading through all the P4G8X threads for about a month now I finally broke down and ordered one.
I have been tweaking the settings following a lot of the info posted in the threads here, but somehow I just can't seem to pass 150 FSB no matter what I'm doing to the settings - my computer just won't boot at 151+. It's amazing to see Thugs getting 182, which is why I came here to see if you guys might have some ideas to what I'm doing wrong.

My current setup/config:
CPU: P4 2.667 512Kb cache - original fan out of the box
Mobo: ASUS P4G8X Deluxe rev 1.2 (?) with original 1003 BIOS (the mobo came with this version)
Memory: 2x256 PC2700 CL2 Corsair XMS sticks (in 1&3)
GFX: Sapphire Radeon 9700Pro Ultimate, 3.2 ATI Drivers
HDD: WD IDE ATA100 120GB 8MB Special Edition
Sound: SB Audigy2 Platinum
Case: Antec with original Antec 430W power supply
OS: Windows XP Pro with SP1 (installed using the instructions posted by Mr Steveo on AsusBoards)

Original Config: 2667, 20X, 133, Auto, Auto, 1.525V, 1.5V, 2.5V, 2.5-3-3-7 16T
1024x768x32
3DMark 2001 SE - 14924
3DMark 2003 Pro - 4667
Sandra Dhrystone - 6823
Sandra Whetstone - 1533/3504
Sandra Memory Bandwidth Benchmark (buffered) - 3298/3288

Current OC: 3000, 20X, 150, 66.66/33.33, 1.625V, 1.6V, 2.6V, 2.5-3-3-7 16T Turbo, 128MB GAS, USWC
3DMark 2001 SE - 15480
3DMark 2003 Pro - 4759
Sandra 2003 Dhrystone - 7867
Sandra 2003 Whetstone - 1732/3945
Sandra 2003 Memory Bandwidth Benchmark (buffered) - 3617/3605
Memtest86 - all 11 tests 16+ loops
3000mhz 150fsb 300ddr = passed
ASUS PC Probe: nothing to worry about

This last one is the one I can't pass. If I go to 151 FSB, the computer won't even boot.
I've tried using the settings supplied by Thugs in this thread, but since there are some config no's not posted, I'm not sure I'm doing it right.

Not that I'm greedy, but stopping at 150 when there's people out there doing 182, there must be something I could do?

Cheers

Head on over to Outpost and purchase one of the 2.53 tray processors..

EDIT: Welcome to AnandTech Forums shrooms... I just noticed that you are from Sweden. I suggest you look around for an OEM SL6S2 2.53 processor. At the moment it is your best bet to hit the FSB you desire..

You want an SL6S2 2.53 CPU.You still are not guaranteed a big overclock but its your best shot.

shorooms - Welcome to AT
Memory: 2x256 PC2700 CL2 Corsair XMS sticks (in 1&3)
If I understand above correctly, you should be in slots 0/1 or even better 2/3.
As Thugs mentioned way back when, it is further from heat and I agree.
If you are in fact in 1 and 3 then you would not be running DCDDR.

One important piece of information that you did not list is the sSpec, Mfg code, etc.
You most likely have a 2.66 that is at it's limit. Chances are you would not get more
that 160fsb with a 20X multiplier even with a golden one.
