Hello. Long time visitor of this site but finally just signed up! Anyways, just wanted to report my successful overclock on my setup.
Setup:
OCZ PLATINUM DUAL PC3500 PC4331024ELDCPE-K AT 2-3-3-6 5:4 With P4 2.6c @ 2.99 (FSB=230) on AI7 MB (rev 1.4).

That leaves me lots of headroom to up my FSB quite a bit. My memory specs can go upto 433MHz. So far I'm happy to report it's running stable at the 230fsb and it increased my 3dmark2k1 by 1,100 and 2k3 by 100. I'll try and up the FSB more after I get aftermarket HSF. I don't think I'll go back to a 1:1 setting since 5:4 seems to be working good. This is the best time I've had overclocking since my Celeron 300a days!

433 for the ram at DDR, but it is ~217.5 in terms or regular FSB...

however, you can run the ram at 5:4 Cpu/Ram fsb ratio, and get some more o/c out of that chip... Good luck with the AI7.

I too am wanting to get that chip to build a new system. Anyone got any suggestions for a good ocing mobo? Also, I was thinking of getting kingston hyper x...

how much of an o/c are you aiming for? I went through 2 Ai7's, and neither could reliably hit over 285 FSB (i have a 2.4C that will run at 301 fsb, so it was a bummer)...

300 in fsb? with a 2.4C or similiar chip? (A 2.4C @300fsb = 3.6ghz, 2.8C @ 300fsb is 4ghz, the prior being much more easily attainable, but still not always a given).

There's a handful of poeple that have, however, gotten a 2.8C M0 chip to around 3.8-4.0Ghz range

Hmm...Yah, well i was going to get a 2.6c, it's only like a $10 difference from the 2.4c at zipzoomfly.com...http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80646-800 & http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80652-800

well, offhand, unless you're using extreme cooling, the latest 2.6 Stepping is a D1, and you can probably squeeze out 3.4ghz out of the chip, but it isn't likely to hit 300fsb with a 2.6C.

now, if you can find a 2.4C m0 or 2.8C m0 chip (Stepping codes SL6Z3 and SL6Z5 respectively), your chances of hitting 300 fsb are much better, but still not guaranteed .

good luck with whatever you choose,
Mike

is7/ic7 and their variants, as well as the p4p800 seem to be good choices for hitting 300 or near 300 fsb...

I'm currently testing out a new 2.4C m0 chip at 288 with an is7 currently. Duvie seems to get great results using IC7's.

yeah, the is7/IC7 should both work well for you...

Buuut... The outpost.com price is okay for the is7, but the fry's in store price is $120, not a good deal...

The iC7 for $140 at pc club isn't exactly a good price either... they charge restockign fee, so you might just want to newegg or zzf it.

I've been playing around with a very similar setup (see sig). The major difference is that my RAM is Corsair 3200LL, running at 2-3-2-7. I can push 216FSB (~2.8GHz) running 1:1, and can make 242FSB (~3.15GHz) when I use 5:4 (both tested stable in Prime95 and Memtest). I'd go for higher, but the fact I'm running entirely stock cooling (without even any thermal paste) means it gets a bit hot for my liking, especially in this summer. I'll do proper topic about it when I get the extra fans/coolers/thermal grease.

As far as your OC goes, I'd say you definitely have more headroom on the 5:4. Did you change the CPU voltage for that overclock? Also, given the RAM's running well under spec, it might be possible to improve the timings on it, though that'll change if you keep pushing up the FSB.

interesting...my ai7 doesn't like high fsb speeds either...i'm running at 284. may have to try another board.

Actually the 2.8c @ 300fsb is 14x300 or 4.2ghz...Ain't gonna do it!!! (dana carvey as Bush seniors voice)

2.6c @300 is 13x300 or 3.9ghz which is equally impossible with air cooling and most all except insane chips...

My abit IC7 and many other IC7 the second version and G version of the chips have been up to 300fsb quite a few times...

Except that 3.5ghz is considered really good and above normal...In that case you likely will not even get close in fsb to that 285 mark with the 2.6c or the 2.8c...They maybe your best choices for that board and to insure the cpu will be the limiting factor here....
