I recently got 2 Pentium 4 LGA 2.8 chips which are SL7PR and I think they are P4 520.

I currently run a P4 2.4c D1 stepping on a Asus p4c800 E-deluxe, with OCZ Pc4200 cl 2.5 2x512mb memeory. Pretty much the system in my signature. I used to have a @.4c M0 which would hit 3.6ghz but when I rmaed it i got a d1 and it only hist 3.2 barly stable.

so I am looking into seeing if its a worthy upgrade from my p4 2.4c to a P4 2.8 LGA. My Motherboard is being RMa'ed right now so I will be able to sell it new, and get a pretty decent price for it. My processor should sell pretty easily.

id like to basicly take my currect system and just change the Motherboard and processor.

Id like to keep the Video card(agp for 9600Xt), memory, hard drives, and everything else.

I also now need a new motherboard. It has to be able to run my Raptors in raid 0, with something equal or better than Intels ICH5R.

So what are some recommendation for a new motherboard. Id like it to pretty much be the best and the one in which will give me the gretest Overclock.

I've heard the Asus P5WD2 is the best overclocker for socket 775. The newer Abit motherboards are supposed to be good also.

Aren't you going to have to get new memory too ? Why not switch to AMD 146 or 170 Opterons. They are supposed to be king right now for OC'ing and then you can keep your memory !

Haha, that's the most "flame-bait"-ish reply you could have thrown out. I dont think going for a 520 will give you much of a performance benefit (considering that you have a northwood at 3.4) unless you overclock MASSIVELY--in the range of 3.8-4GHz). The CPUs themselves can probably do it but you'll need a motherboard that can handle such a high FSB speed and the insane current load (80-100 Amps is my very rough guess). You'll also need very good cooling, since Prescotts are known for their heating "capabilities".

Depending on what you are running, your current northwood@3.4 will be faster in a lot of things. My 3.06ghz northwood@3.45ghz was faster than my prescott @3.82ghz for gaming, and audio encoding, the prescott was faster for video encoding. My 2.8ghz prescott made only made it to 3.5ghz, and the northwood @3.45ghz was faster than it in everything.

The Abit AS8 is a good board for an lga775 prescott if you want to keep AGP, and DDR. Thats what I used to take my 3.4ghz prescott to 3.82ghz(well 3.91ghz with water), and it has ICH5R, so you could run your raid-0 raptors no problem. Really, unless you are going to upgrade to an AMD dual core, I would just keep your northwood.
