guys, i recently got a 3.0E 1MB L2. im running it on Intel 865PERL mobo using Thermaltake spark 7+ HSF with the thermal compund that came with it (the shop didnt hav AS5). now im gettin idle temp of 50C with it goin up to around 60C under load. the guys at shop where i bought the mobo n proc said the normal temp for this proc was arund 55 to 60C.

so for any of u guys runnin the processor wht temp are u gettin? wht HSF are you using?

You're running a Prescott. Those temps are normal. Hell, I'm running mine @ 4.0 ghz and it runs at 10C higher than yours.

Those temps are high, but still safe. Do you know what stepping your chip is? I really recommend you look at getting a XP-90 with a good 92mm fan. Your temps will drop seriously. At 3.8 my idle temps are 38 and full load 45.

I have the same CPU running at 3.9ghz. Mine is an E0 stepping and it idles at 41c and maxs out at 52c while oc'd using the stock cooler. The latest E0 stepping runs the coolest.

The P4 3.0E is made to take 75C according to Intel. My major issue is that my 3.0E's CPU fan keeps blowing @ 5300RPM after playing a heavy game, even if the temp has gone down to 48C and the case temp is cool too! I hate that!!! It sounds like I have a small car in my living room!!!

I have the same processor with the exact same HSF and my temps are the same. I will idle anywhere from 48-53c (mostly 51-53c) depending on room temp and get around 60 under a load. I am using AS5 but it doesnt look like that makes much difference.

I'm getting about 41C idle and around 50C load at the Zalman's lowest fan setting (1450rpm)

Not too shabby

yeah, those temps are pretty normal I wouldn't be worried. My 2.8@3.5ghz ran at 63c under full load, my 3.2 ES runs at 57c under full load with a thermaltake jungle 512, my 3.4ghz prescott is on water cooling now, because even underclocked with a thermalright XP-120 it was getting to over 70c under load.

A newer mobo or an 875p chipset would reduce temps.

I have a prescott and an Aopen 865. The temps are ridiculous.

At around 70C mine will bluescreen.

My 2.8E idles 44-46 with 3 case fan and zalmanCU heatsink/fan. 50C doesn't seem like a problem. I hit about 60C under load too.

I have to say that some of you ppl do not know what load is... When most ppl state "load" they mean "full" load or 100% cpu usage (not 45,80, or even 90%) for a period of time greater then a few minutes. Most modern cpus (P4Es) at this speeds with the high watts of heat being produced with the prescotts will not have less then 15c swings from idle to load (minus water cooling system and some very few more expensive air coolers) ...It is probably closer to 20+.....

Full load on a prescott wil be when an HT aware app or 2 cpu intensive apps are running simultaneously. Gaming will not max a temp out on a p4, period....2 instance of prime for 30 minutes to an hour will let you see an idea of a worst case heat scenario. As summer approaches these will become more and more of an issue.

That is why for P4 users you should run throttlewatch and max your temp like I listed above and try to leave some headroom for the summer months when room temps will rise....

I have had p4's (cooler running northwoods) with high end HSF and with running 2 instances of prime95 I still saw swings of 20c and I had 5 case fans not including pSU....So unless you have some 40-50 dollar coolers I call BS on temp swings under 15c for sure....You are kidding yourself...

Normal swings on my p4 2.4c@3.5ghz (modest 1.58v)

cool times = 38c idle - 58c full load
warm times = 41c idle 62c full load
hotter times (for the Pac. NW) = 43c idle 66c full load

Before ppl ask why I care....I care cause I think most noobs or passer bys in this forum see your load claims and they think "that ain't bad" until they get their system and see 70c+ real load temps....They may actually run encoing apps or duaL FH and encoding apps and really LOAD their system. I am just trying to keep the info correct so ppl dont get mislead. I have to admit this can be very misleading to Inetl noobs and AMD64 winchester ocing is just as well for amd noobs....

Mine idles around 55-59 in a shuttle SB75S. It's the C0 stepping though, which supposedly runs hotter then the E0. It's a loud little box, with a 5900 XT but it does the job. My cousin spent the night and I had to turn the shuttle off so he could fall asleep since my office doubles as the guest bedroom.
