It should work, I have the P4P800-E Deluxe and both have the same CPU specs support, otherwise I wouldn't bother ordering that P4EE hehe

you ordered 3.4EE?
:Q

and you already have a NW 3.4c?

Yeah lol, I did it only because I was able to sell my Northwood at 80 bucks, so the spend for the P4EE is less than 60 bucks including shipping, and the performance increase in general applications should be minimal, since this CPU already ownz the Prescott core in any discipline, but in gaming, the 3.4EE should be faster, a healthy increase from 5 to 20%, is not bad for a 60 bucks investment eh? I always liked this CPU since It came, but it was too costly at that time (Mid 2004) And at that time also the Northwood and Prescott debutted and since I didn't like Prescott, I bought this NW which is a very good CPU.

makes *total sense* to me

the guys in video think i should stick with my moderately O/C'd 2.80c

that it isn't worth it
:Q

i think some of them are a little jealous that i am almost catching up to them

you 'CPU & OC guys' here are better than that ... i hope to get a little help from you when i try and O/C it

Your little project makes 'total sense' to me too apoppin.
Can't wait to hear your comments after you install that beast.

I swore I wouldn't spend any more $ on my P4 2.8c. You know go c2d and all that but that 3.4EE is so tempting.

My "old" rig

Abit IC7 P42.8c@3ghz or so
Mushkin "Redline" pc3200 [1.5gb] 2x512,2x256 2/2.5/2/6,@ 2.7vts
215fsb 1:1
Matched sticks but with all 4 slots filled kills off PAT no matter what I've tried.
Antec 430tp in an Antec 1080
Leadtek 7600GT
plus all the other usual stuff.
I play pretty much all the latest games like FEAR etc @ 1280x1024 with good results but maybe with that 3.4ee I'd be all set for another 6 months or so
Good luck, keep us posted.
Oh, Zalman cpu hsf works well for me.

thank-you

i *promise* to update you

and ... one suggestion for your rig . . . if your CPU is capable, o/c it to 3.2Ghz using the 5:4 divider

the little bandwith lost is more than made up by the CPU's increased speed ... performance overall is improved

... well at least in my current rig

try it running some benchmarks

last thought ... if you want to make it "a year" instead of six months ... upgrade that 7600GT to a x1950p/512M ... IF you get the EE

for the people with the really nice AGP systems, the x1950xt is coming out for them

Thanks for the suggestion re: the 5:4 divider
Relaxed the ram timings, set divider to 5:4, 229fsb for 3207MHz
Just ran a pass of Memtest86+, no errors!
Going to run Prime 95 toture overnight and see what happens.

I love this old Northwood.

It worth the upgrade, I want to know how you overclock that beast so I can follow you, this motherboard is a bit complicated for overclocking since it doesn't have a divider. Now what I need is 2GB DDR500 and a good videocard.

PC 5000 is around $300 for 2x1GB, i think ... if you can find it

then you don't need dividers

First, i will check out my P4EE's "potential" with just the stock HSF.

--If she can boot into Win - even for a few seconds at close to 4GB - i know to get a really *good* cooling solution ...

--then, if she is stable at 3.8Ghz with a 5:4 divider, i know to spend the bucks for the tweak RAM

OTOH, if she fails to hit 3.5Ghz without a solid v-core boost, i will forget wasting another nickel and run her stock with the cheapie intel HSF ... as long as temps are ok.

if yours is a *monster* ... hold out for the AGP x1950xt ... if not, the x1950p is a decent upgrade for your rig now. .... as to O/C'ing we'll all work on it together here

basically, all you do is raise the FSB till she gets unstable then back down to the last stable FSB and test it. ... done ... then refine it

pendragon, if she's stable - keep going ... my 2.80c goes to 3.31Ghz - about the same in games as an A64-3000+ ... you get a free upgrade!
:gift:

Jesus, i want one. My northwood 3.0C is dying (yeah its really old, over 4 years of hard core use), but this is one sweet of a deal. A gallatine core with 2mb L3 cache

Thanks for the thread appopin, now this has to be the best deal out of all the deals for us AGPers still on the old 865/875 chipsets.

i don't think there are that many left at the geeks

better check it ... i doubt they will get cheaper ... just scarcer ... unless intel had a quite a few boxes in a backroom

the also have 3.0E/C and 3.4E.

but the EE looks like the best deal

btw ... tracking shows it as arriving later today

Prime 95 stable overnight:thumbsup:
Temps are fine: sys 28, cpu 36, pwm 29 idling
cranked during prime= 32/53/40
Zalman alcu cpu [7000? I forget ] and a passive Zalman hs where the previous crapppy Abit NB hsfs used to reside .[2 went bad beore I went passive]
Looks like I might have some more room left.
Going to play some FEAR cranked up and see how that works out
Apoppin, 5:4 works. Don't know why I never ventured from 1:1 but glad I did.
Tonight should be a lot of fun for you!

There's a couple of them around the high 200 which are nice, there's also DDR533 but is just too pricey for the little difference in frequency. That will give you enough bandwidth for your bandwidth hungry P4EE

*it works* -- but my HS is *insufficient*
[not to mention it's the old aluminium one and i broke the heat-stressed plastic and had to superglue it, Mickey Mouse-like]

temps running in the hi70s ...

--forget testing it today

i will get a new HS tomorrow ... and let you know

oh yeah, got a new monitor ... 14x9

gonna need the 'EE"

EDIT: i can use *serious* HSF suggestions

but still *budget* ... please ...

i am now ... beyond broke with the monitor too

this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118114

ZALMAN CNPS7700 is listed as fitting the IC7-MAX ... i think it may be a little big for mine
[Ic7]
anyone *know*? --or something good for a similar price?

thanks ... why is the fan sold separately from the HS?
--what about a NB fan? ... might as well do them both

and AC5 is overrated
:Q

that RadioShack thermal stuff works fine ... 'till it dries out

EDIT: the AC freezer does look perfect

is it really quiet?

NB fan suggestion for IC7?

preliminary results:

... i went to PC Club B&M and picked out the TT regular Prescott Cooler [to 3.6Ghz] so i can test my CPU and return or upgrade it easily.

Well, booted into BIOS with it and noticed temperatures were down from almost 80c to high 50s .... o/c'd it [FSB > 212 1:1 divider ... an *easy one* to 3.6Ghz and still low 60s]

Ran 3DMark05 ... 9137 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so ... in my identical rig ... no changes *except* from a 2.80c @3.25Ghz at 8075 to a 3.4EE @ 3.6Ghz is *over* 1,000 marks

i haven tried 3.7 or 3.8 ... i may have to drop the memory divider ... but my upgrade IS significant

i bet i can get over 10,000 if i OC my X1950p/512M also

not bad for AGP ... and imo, a substantial upgrade ... for $80[total]

not very far

final o/c'ing update ... it tops out at exactly 3.7Ghz ... verrrrry nice
[FSB would be 872]

it isn't bad considering the very fastest P4 EE topped out at 3.73 [1066FSB] ... pretty much the upper *limit* of the net-burst architecture ... although some do O/C further with a voltage boost.

mine can't go higher even raising the vcore from 1.55 to 1.60 ... and the memory is still at 1:1 ... within the limits of my PC3500 which makes it over 220FSB - although i DID try 5:4 for higher FSBs over 218.
the temps are almost UNchanged from 3.4Ghz and 3.7Ghz ... a couple of degrees ... so i won't bother with an exotic cooler. ... and it will be fine for Summer .... my room temperature was over 80F
:sun:

Final result ... only the cpu being changed
-my x1950p/512M is at stock speeds--

My 2.80c @ 3.25Ghz [5:4 divider] gets 8075 in 3DMark05
my 3.4EE @ 3.7Ghz [1:1 divider] gets 9280 in 3DMark05

My 2.80c @ 3.31Ghz [5:4 divider] got 6550 in 3DMark05 with my 7800GS OC [moderately o/c'd] for comparison with another GPU

worth it ... and i won't need better RAM

the cooler is a cheapie ... ThermalTake TR2-M12 ... all copper & rated for Prescott 3.6Ghz, anything else is overkill [for me]

I just installed my CPU 4 hours ago, and I did some benchmarks, and I used to score 12334 in 3DMark03 now I can score up to 13112, in 3DMark05 the score increase was from 6.132 to 6353, not big deal, and the score increase in 3DMark06 was from 1998 to 2096, not big deal either. I will test it in games next monday, cause this weekend I'll be working and I will not have enough time to do some testing, I will check also the overclockability of this CPU. So far, so good.

so evolucion8, that is a stock 3.4c NW compared to a stock 3.4EE Gallatin ... the only difference being the EE's +2MB L3 cache ... not even 10% in 3DMark03 ...
you might run the latest SiSoft Sandra Lite to compare further performance.

how do the cpu scores compare in '05/

how far did your current NW o/c?

how are the EE temps?

-and i guess your final determination will depend on how much you care to O/C it

btw, the vcore is 1.575 ... my 2.80c was lower and i have been undervolting the EE ... in fact, when i "added" +.025v to make it stable at 3.71Ghz, i was finally at stock vcore.

same temps
and that is where i will keep it

x1950p will bring your 3DMark05 scores up probably 3,000 points in '05 over your x800xt ... the single biggest improvement you can make to your system.... that's what i did and the difference is very noticeable ... Fable LC is quite a beautiful game with everything completely maxed, 8xAA and forced 16xAF ....

i was *forced* to get a 22" WS ... 14x9

more money

worth it

Jumped on the 3.4 EE. Couldnt pass up a 1k$ proc at ~100$.

Have a Asus P4P800 SE. It's a i865 chipset which according to Intels site is supported even though Asus site doesn't show support.

This will be a nice upgrade from my 3.0 northy D1 stepping. Man 2mb of L3!

Gonna' have to lap this bad boy down, see what I can get out of it.

How long did shipping take?

1 day

i live in SoCal

btw, do you know why New Jersey has toxic waste dumps and cold winters while Cali has awesome weather and lawyers?
--NJ had first pick

anyway ... post your results ... ev8 also ... i'd love to compare o/c'ing results ...
i might even consider a really nice cooler to get 3.8 ... but the 'extra' 100Mhz is SO meaningless, practically speaking in day-to-day usage - to have to bump up the vcore at all.

Help me refresh my memory - the Pentium EE's are unlocked multis, both up and down, right? Or is that just the ES's?
