P4 478 Motherboard upgrades

Hello all,

I know there's some motherboards out there that support DDR but I'd rather go with the ASUS motherboard. My understanding is that the ASUS board currently supports sdram. If I buy the board today will I be able to flash it to support DDR or will I have to swap out the board at a later date?

NO..If you buy a P4B today, you will not be able to use DDR ram on that board. The slots and pin count for the two memory types is way different.

The Asus P4S333 SiS 645 P4 System Board is the first anounced DDR P4, but you will have to wait for its release.

strange but amdworld has some info on the VIA P4X266A / VT8233A chipset and featuring the C-Media 8738 audio controller

For what it's worth, I just made my first P4 system and used the Asus p4T-E (RDRAM) and it's simply the most stable and easiest to use motherboard I've ever owned. Sure it's pricey, but my performance with 512MB RAM, P4/1600 is amazing.

I'd go with one the RDRAM or DDR boards if you can. The p4 should be happier with the add'l bandwidth.

I'm trying out the Shuttle AV40 VIA P4X266 DDR board, which seems to have a few other fans here as well. (That new Shuttle AV45GTR looks very cool BTW, Loba.) SiS645 DDR boards should be worth a look as well.
