O/C higher? As in higher than by using the Intel retail-box HSF? I don't know, I never tried using the Intel HSF. Here are my current results... Motherboard is Gigabyte GA-8IRX and does not have VCORE adjustments in BIOS so I had to use the wire trick to set the default CPU voltage on my 1.6A to 1.85v (BIOS reports 1.84v). Without increasing the VCORE (default 1.50, BIOS around 1.49) I could overclock to around 1920@120FSB (roughly, didn't spend too much time there). Increasing the VCORE gives me 2240@140FSB. At 2304@144FSB I was getting some instability. I haven't checked what temperature the CPU is at. All this is using the $19 AVC Sunflower.

My next step is to obtain a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ (all copper 70x70mm HSF with 3 speed fan).

I don't know if it'll let you overclock higher, at most let you run more stable. I noticed prime95 would crap out on my after about 10-12 hours. I reasoned it was heat-related so I ordered a sunflower. The AVC fan was too loud so I just stuck the stock intel fan on top of it. After that it ran prime95 48+ hours without a hitch. So for me it did the trick to get me a bit more stable. I highly doubt your cpu will overclock higher due to a new HSF. And even if it did, being that it is so close to its limits (since it requires a new hsf to run stabley<-- sp?) you wouldn't want to run it at that speed because it is on the edge of failing and has no tolerance for any heat increase whatsoever.

Zap: Good going you got there, nice chip. Is Thermaltake Volcano 7+ that much better????? I can get Thermaltake Volcano 7+ locally for $30 and AVC Sunflower will cost me about $26+ after tax and shipping. So cost me about the same for either one. Or LMK if you want to sell it.

ElusivePeon: If "prime95 would crap out on my after about 10-12 hours" that means you shouldn't be running at that speed. Which mean AVC Sunflower had done it's job and let you O/C higher.

I have a 1.8A that wouldn't run stable at 2.4G, it's running stable now @ 2.2G. Just trying to sqeeze more juice out of this Northwood chip.

Don't know, but I just want to try it out. For $30 I'm willing. I think I have a buyer for my 1.6A with AVC Sunflower, so sorry it isn't for sale. You can pick up a Sunflower for $19 with FREE shipping from PC Power & Cooling (check Hot Deals).

I just received my Sunflower from PCP&cooling.com

My full load temps w/ the retail Intel HSF & ASII was 54C, now it's 48C. The 70mm fan on the AVC is only slightly louder than the sanyo denki. I am using Panaflo 80mm A12L (24 CFM @ 21 dBA) fans in my case and powersupply. It sure is nice to have a virtually silent PC.

Does everyone get this HSF with AVC logo/sticker on top of the OEM box? I also heard the fan speed is only about 4000rpm, not as specs 5000rpm, is this true?

dentalboy, what make you think it is not sunflower ?

Please reply, Thanks.

Its definitely a Sunflower. As far as it being loud I didnt notice the differenc between it and the retail P4 heatsink.

Ive ordered 5 of these so far they are all sunflowers, If you cannot read the AVC on the side or see the sticker on the fan then you a a blind idiot. It does not come in a AVC box, it comes in a plain box.

THe REAL one doesnt say sunflower on it, it just says AVC on it.
