P4 Kicks RDRAM habit for DDR

Has anyone noticed how the lower latency of DDR helps the 3.06 HT P4 out even with lower overall bandwith?

So what will this mean for Granite Bay?

Id like to point out why what you have said is self defeating. Rambus has gotten labled as having high latency because if its first mass produced memory moduel RDRAM 800 which did indead have noticably high latency in relation to DDR, but since the release of RDRAM 1066 the difference in latency has become negliable. The next RDRAM produced, weather it be PC 1200, PC 1333, or even RIMM 4800, should actually lapse DDR in respect to difference in latency. That said im not shure what differences DDR-II or Quad-RDRAM architecture will bring with relation to there latency.

PC800 RDRAM has a 40 ns latency, PC1066 32ns, PC2700 DDR, is between 6/7ns that is between 1/5-1/7 of PC1066 RDRAM's. RDRAMs only advantage is it queue memory transactions.

"Pro : Latency Issues Fixed with PC-1066
Remember how people complained that memory latency was the issue which would kill RDRAM? Well, you can safely put that to rest,
as the latest generation of RDRAM (PC-1066) have superb latency. As RDRAM's latency decreases with clock speed, latency is no
longer an issue of concern with PC-1066. Latency of PC-1066 is now on par with today's DDR SDRAM solutions, and no doubt will
surpass DDR's low latency with next generation PC-1200 / PC-1333 RDRAM."

I read info here in recent article, good info there

And when is PC-1200/PC-1333 coming? By the time that comes DDR-II will most likely be here. So much for that talk huh...

DDR433 is already as fast as PC1066, that didn't take long. I'm sorry but unless RDRAM can get down to single digit latency in ns DDR will always overcome it. There's faster DDR every few months and um a newer RDRAM is what every few years?

In Sisoft Sandra the PC1066 RDRAM scores 3340MB/sec and PC3500 is around 3240MB/sec the differences is only visible to a benchmark. The Pentium 4's true potential hasn't even been awakened yet. It can pump 4.2GB/sec but PC1066 can only supply about 60% of that. I think Intel wants to kick RDRAM to the curb as well but they cant.

Are you all against RDRAM??!!!
Alright! Where is my AK-47??!!!
Ooo wait.. My second PC has DDR in it...

OK.. You are fine.. Keep going..

Well flame RDRAM all you want but weather you use it or not you would be wise not to hope and see it out the door. Rambus keeps DDR technlogy in check, what would it be like without an AMD, or ATI.

Oh and im pretty shure that DDR 3500 is just oced 3200 with is not quite a fare comparison because RDRAM PC 1066 is often oced to 1200 so if you want to break down a comparison use either DDR 3200 to RDRAM 1066 or DDR 3500 to RDRAM 1200.

should be happy RDRAM is still around, just as well as AMD is still around for Intel (or vice versa) competition is good people!
