Looking for pros/cons on these for a laptop. Friend is looking at a new lappy, and i think what stands out to him is the 2.8ghz vs 1.6ghz.

On the 1150, it does say that the proc is a Mobile P4......

As far as use, I think the most gaming that would be done would be RTS games, like Age of Mythology. Not much beyond that. Probably lots of ripping/burning cd's, with maybe some audio editing.

I for one, lean towards the 600m and more portability....but I'm kind of biased, as my laptop is an X40 with a wee little 1.2ghz.

Any input would be appreciated!

I think you mean Pentium M. The 1.6 Pentium M Dothan chip is just about as fast as a 2.2-2.4ghz P4 and is much better suited to mobile life. It consumes far less power.

The 1.6ghz Pentium M would be a lot better for him than the 2.8ghz mobile P4, especialy if he's not doing any heavy gaming. The pentium M is a lot more like the athlon 64, it does more work per clock cycle, so it doesn't need to run at super high clock speeds. It also runs cooler, and uses less power. For most things the pentium M will be faster than the mobile P4.

Pentium M all the way. ~3X the battery life, runs cooler, similar speed (it's a bit slower for games, but not terribly slower with similar video cards).

I like my 600m, and it will run AOM pretty decently. I was playing HL2 on it the other day, and it ran it pretty good at 1024x768. I have a 1.5ghz P-M in mine, and it's fast enough for my purposes. I wouldn't touch any P4 in a laptop myself, there is a reason why they're discontinuing them.

I personally think that the 600m is a great balance between performance, batt life, and size. Having a "laprock" is alright for some people, but don't you usually buy a laptop for mobility?

i can run aom on an athlon 1400 with 512 mb ram and a geforce 3 perfectly. and in early 2004 i was in the top 20 of the rankings. get the pentium m. itll be more than enough to run that game flawless.
