Recently I bought an Thermalright AX-478 for my Pentium 4 1.6aghz and then mounted a Vantec Tornado on it. Big mistake, I could hear that outside my house and down the street (okay so I'm exaggerating a little). Anyway, I just slapped on the retail HSF and used it to overclock, it worked fine and I think the only reason it won't go higher than 2.24 is because of my chip. That's beside the point though; I'm looking for a new fan and I'm wondering how loud the P4 fan is. Also, how good those variable SmartFans work with heatsinks, because I think they're built for cases. I found one that I really like, but I don't like the fact that you can't control the RPMs on it. The ThermalTake SmartFan Variable Control fan runs 2900RPM at low temps and delivers 46CFM worth of suctionage (?) at 39dB. That's pretty amazing considering other fans would do that at 45+ dB. What do you think? Anything lower than a Tornado's 52dB would be better I guess. And anything not much higher than the ?dB of a P4 retail fan.
