P41.6A @ 150fsb... 2.4GHz

Hello,
I am running the P4 at 2.4Ghz and its completely stable. However, i thought I saw somewhere that the PC2700 RAM runs at 166Fsb.. meaning I'm not using it to its fullest potential since the computer is running at 150? What should I set the divider to in the BIOS? I am using a P4S333 bios ver. 1004 (SIS chipset) and the RAM is Kingmax.

At 155FSB, the screen output is jumbled. I have a GeForce 2 Ultra... is that the bottleneck? Would buying one of those new GeForce4 cards allow me to go 155?

Someone mentioned the USB 1.1 not working at above 150 FSB, from what I could see (After windows loaded), my Karna Razer Mouse worked. Just FYI.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Well, if you do a little math, the P4 at default clock is running at 100MHz FSB, but the memory is running at 166MHz DDR on that chipset (unless you have it set to 133MHz DDR).

166/100 * 150 = 249MHz (which is what your memory should be running at if the chipset's default memory divider was active).

Now, if you have the memory divider down to 133/100:

133/100 * 150 = 199MHz (which is far more likely)

Most likely your memory is running at 199MHz DDR (it's actually 200MHz considering it's 133.33333... MHz that your memory is running at).

In the off chance that your memory was running at a 1:1 memory divider and your memory is running at 150MHz DDR, you could simply change the multiplier.

You have the same setup as me (P4S333, P4-1.6A, Kingmax PC2700). Set your memory ratio to 4:5 and you should be fine. Kingmax PC2700 should do 187MHz fine.

About the GeForce2, that is probably your problem @155FSB. I have a GeForce3 and it is my bottleneck...so upgrading to a GeForce4 probably won't help you much. I wish ASUS would allow us to change the AGP voltage.

At 4:5 it wont boot
What are the rest of the memory settings supposed to look like?

Nope, cant get enough I would love to do 155 or at least get full use out of the memory.

Thanks guys -max

kingmax is only cas 2.5t so make sure that is what it is set at...

bios 1004c contains the 4:5 ratio after 133fsb...

150 w/ 4:5 ratio is 375mhz ddr and the kingmax should handle that...Mine has booted up at 390mhz at a lower fsb but with the 3:5 ratio

The 3:5 ratio only goes up to like 122-125...

Just keep them on default (2.5-4-4-7, I think). Try raising your voltage to 2.7V using the jumper.

If it is kingmax pc2700 and not booting at 375mhz ddr it is likely not 5ns memory (like most ppl I have talked to and I have) which should boot to 400mhz ddr...

Exp,
Sorry to ask (Im new to this ) but.. What do the "(2.5-4-4-7, I think). " relate to? Also, which general area (If the CPU is top left corner) is the DDR V jumper? (too lazy to look it up in the manual)

Duvie, I got my KingMax from GoogleGear, judging by the other thread, it should be 5ns. Doesnt make sense to me.

Those deal with the timing/latency of the RAM...lower numbers are better. The higher your memory is clocked the less aggressive you can be with your timings, so leave them at default, unless you want to lay off the MHz instead.

The jumper is in the upper right corner, you can't miss it. Four pins, move it to the middle two for 2.7V or the right two for 2.9V.

Just look on the chips and if they say -05 then they are 5ns. Actually, some people have reported that there is no real difference between the -05 and -07 chips anyway...Kingmax technical support says it is just a mislabeling and they are all 5ns. *shrug* I think THUGSROOK (sp?) did a test on both and found no difference.

LOL, I know that the 2.5 is the CAS, what what are the rest labeled in the BIOS?
Thanks -max

Am I correct in thinking that the DDR Voltage jumper will do nothing when in Jumper-Free mode? Is there any way to change the voltage in the bios then?

I dont know....I did the jumper for the voltage boost and I am in jumper-free mode...I have done all my cpu ocing and memroy ratio stuff in the bios but the voltage mod works like a charm....

Voltage Mod here I come! Should I try to creep up to 155fsb? like 154? Is the gain worth the extra heat etc? I am running 40C on the Processor and 28C on the MB. Those stats are from the ASUS Probe.

Ahh that damn asus probe...I think it is stuck on 40c....

In bios my board tells me 36.5c idle after several minutes...I go into asusprobe in windows and it always tells me 40c no matter if I changed the voltage or the speed....

However it will start moving after awhile in prime95, but I have yet to se higher then 45c on mine after hours of prime95....

Um....they are listed right below the CAS entry in the Chip Configuration page: SDRAM Cas Latency, SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay, SDRAM RAS Precharge Time, SDRAM Mode.

It works for me in jumper-free mode. I don't know of any way to adjust the RAM voltage in BIOS.

ASUS probe is known to not work with the P4S333...it only changes its reading from 40*C if the temperature actually passes 40*C, like Duvie said.

It's fun to push things as far as possible (at least to get a screenshot with wpcpuid) but I would only run 155FSB permanently if Prime95 torture test and 3DMark overnight loops run stable. Otherwise that means you are pushing things a little too hard. If your GeForce3 is scrambling output at 155FSB then back off a bit, you don't want to break anything.

Exp,
Thanks for the "(2.5-4-4-7, I think)" clarification.

Where can I get the wpcpuid, prime95 and 3dmark? Im using WinXP Pro.

I've just been testing it by encoding MPEGs, Ripping (my personal) DVDs and Playing games...

Thanks guys.
