Hey I just wanted to see how many of you using a p35 mobo are going to actually switch to a p45 mobo when they come out? If you are going to switch im just curious as to why

Some of us might switch if it turns out that the P45 chipset (65nm process, no?) runs cool enough to improve overclocking significantly.

In my own case, what's more likely is that, should I need to build a new Intel system in the next year, it will probably be based on a P45 motherboard and a Penryn cpu. I've my doubts when it comes to Nehalem being affordable enough to warrant switching to a radically new platform (new sockets and motherboards, integrated memory controller, 'QuickPath', etc). Of course by the time 'Westmere' is released, who knows...

Nope. Replacing my P35 board is that furthest thing on my mind in terms of upgrades. I'd rather do one of the following:

-new GPU (we'll see where pricing lands once new models hit the shelves... already seeing some attractive rebates on 8800GTs)
-add another 2GB of memory (I find that 2GB can be a little limiting in some games... probably even more so with a new GPU)
-snag a new CPU (C2Q) before LGA775 is entirely dead (i'll probably just snag a new HSF and OC my E2200 tho)

IMO, most non-base P35 boards are fairly solid and offered a healthy feature set. There's not a whole lot of merit in upgrading to P45 unless you're looking for something really specific.

I would imagine that only the inveterate tinkerers & those who "must" run the latest will swap from an existing P35 to a P45 as I don't think that there are any compelling reasons to upgrade.
of course if building a new system anyway that's a different story.

Only if I see that the P45 can clock the 45nm quads higher (and without the high voltages the P35 needs). If people are hitting 450FSB without crazy NB/PLL/FSB voltages, then probably yes. If not, then no.

Am I the only one who's holding on for a p45 board? Maybe a gigabyte ep45 ds3l? Upgrading from my s939 x 3800+ system and I'm starting to lose patience. Damn is there an eta on these boards? I thought I read somewhere they would be showing up starting end of may and more during computex. hmm

It's a weird placeholder product, where we already have good X38/X48 boards for enthusiasts, and a whole new socket coming out "soon" with Nehalem. Building a new system? Sure. Upgrading? Buy something that matters.

Yeah... I have a sweet-ass system already. Why swap out a new board? Maybe if this one suffers explosive capacitor failure like my DS4 did Such epic fail... I'm just lucky I didn't loose any data!

This site in the UK has been selling Gigabyte P45 and P43 boards for about a week now. It's probably of no use to those in the US but at least it''ll give some idea of the future $ sale price . Gigabyte also have the boards up on their site since a few days ago. I'm waiting for Abit.

cant wait to have the asus p5q deluxe in my hands...its the ONLY thing i need to finally start and finish my build.

I'm seriously considering going with a P45 Intel motherboard, so I can run 16 GB of DDR2 ram.

I'm going to stick with what I have. (sig) The p35 boards seem to be very solid and without a doubt, Stable!

If I need to buy a board, then I'll get P45. Otherwise no. My wife's system is still running a P965 chipset board and it is doing fine. Mine is a P35. I don't see any reason to upgrade purely for a newer chipset.

Doesn't mean I won't end up with one, but for other reasons.

Nope, X48 is still king. No need to downgrade, plus with Nehalem around the corner, whats the point in buying new hardware now?

When is P45 supposed to start showing up in stores? I am planning on replacing my rather antiquated computer when the new Video cards come out (most likely going with a 4850) though if its close, I suppose I could wait a week or two to buy.

I might pick up something later this summer...when's Nehalem going to be out anyway? I'm waiting for Core 2 Duo prices to go down so I can scoop up a Pentium E2220 or C2D E4600 sometime...
