I have a Asus P4B266 and a 1.6 @2.1 at default voltage--but only with the jumpers. How are you getting the BIOS buss adjustments to work?? The Asus board has all these nice tweaks, but they won't work for me. RRR

You have to set the CPU speed to manual first, before the FSB adjustments menu becomes active.

Make sure that you have all dipswitches set to off, and then JEN jumper set to allow BIOS adjustments.

The processor runs at 133MHz with the jumpers. If I soft set it to 133 and increase the voltage Windows start to load but hangs at the desktop. What am I doingwrong??

You have to use either just the bios or the jumpers to adjust the fsb. You CAN'T use both!! To use just the bios, you have to disable the jumbers which should be the default.

I have tried using only the BIOS with the jumpers in the off mode and JEN set to BIOS set. The computer starts, the memory count runs, it says 2100 MHz for example (16X133) but I hangs as Windows loads. I read a reviews of the board somewhere that said they couldn't get it to overclock with the BIOS soft set only the jumpers.

I'd say 99.9% of the people using this board are doing it in the BIOS, because when you do the FSB with the jumpers it locks the divider at 1:1. Folks like to keep the divider at 3:4 so they can OC their RAM as well and doing it on the board doesn't allow this feature. The large majority of people are having no trouble OC'ing this board in the BIOS so I don't think there is a problem with this board. You may have a bum board or processor, but that's an isolated problem.

Make sure you are using the USB 2.0 ports, and not the USB 1.1 ports. Some mice will prevent the system from booting if plugged into one of the USB 1.1 ports.

RickH - I'm using the BIOS as is everyone else that I've ever heard of except for you and one other person on another forum. I regularly read about 9 or 10 forums and everybody is OCing this board in the BIOS. Like I stated above, if you use the jumpers it locks the memory speed at 1:1 and you lose the great advantage of being able to overclock your memory speed. Overclocking your RAM is like getting extra performance for free. These asynchronous RAM busses are one of the neat things about these P4 overclocks that aren't available to most Atlon OCers.

It's certainly true that some people are having a harder time OCing than others, but this is normal in the wonderful world of overclocking.

You have to remember a few things: There are never any guarantees when it comes to OCing, some people get super results, some do OK, others get barely anything.

Also remember that this P4 Northwood stuff is pretty cutting-edge, The processors are new, the chipsets are new, the fast RAM speeds and "PC2700" RAM are new. That adds another dimension to an already dodgy area.

But don't you just want to know WHY it will run at 133MHz with the jumpers and not the BIOS????

Yes, it is rather odd, but does it matter? I mean, if you can get the chip to run at 133 MHz FSB without any problems, do you really need to worry about which way you get it to run at 133 MHz?

I think you should just be happy with having the ability to run it at 2.1, some people don't have that chance - I can do it, but only by bumping the voltage to 1.6v in order to run it stable. So... I did

Mine does the same exact thing. I cannot run mine with the bios, only with the jumpers. I had to do the wire trick to get my 1.8A to be stable at 2.4 at default voltage. I posted this here: Questions On P4B266 Settings I never got any good answers.
