P4B266 Temp at 40 degrees regardless?

I searched through the previous messages both here and "elsewhere" and found no good explanation for the cpu temperature to constantly indicate 40 degrees Celcius. One fellow posted that temperature isn't indicated if it is less than 40 degrees, yet will respond if temperature exceeds that figure. I can hardly believe that would be by design as it makes the temperature indication much less useful. Others speak of a new bios 1006 but I can find no such bios or even any evidence of it being forthcoming.

Who else has this problem and what, if anything, have you done to correct?

TONS of people have this problem...... in fact, just about everyone with your motherboard has this problem. There is a program out that will let you monitor the temp of your CPU. I think it's called MBM5 or M5M......... try doing a google search on those two and see what you come up with.

I installed the latest version of Motherboard Monitor earlier today and still do not get proper temperature readings. Only the motherboard reports a possibly valid temp and it seems too high given the cpu's heat sink doesn't even feel warm. I'm wondering if this problem carries over to other 845D chipset mobos?

Are you using Asus 2 sensor for the CPU temp?

Thanks for that on the Asus2, but it gives me a constant 25 degrees. The motherboard reports 32 or 33 degrees. Both those readings never vary beyond that one degree of mobo change. I don't believe any of the temps given reflect any actual condition. One temp is waaaaayyyyy up there.
