Ok, finally got around to overclocking the 2.4.... look at system specs for all details on system:

Bios v1.1
2x512 Kingston hyperX 3500
2x Western Digital Raptors in raid 0 on ich5
Antec True 550w
Swiftech MCX4000 w/ Antec Smartfan I (I had a vantec tornado and an slk800u on this before and it kept cpu at about 44C @ idle, but this set-up is a little quieter )

@ Default - @ idle - Ambient 31C, System 34C, CPU 45.5C, PWM 39-42C
PCMark02:
CPU 6024
MEM 7950
HD 2361

Sandra:
Mem Bandwidth 4553/4505
HD 67412

@ 271 fsb or 3252 mhz, vcore 1.6 (board undervolts by about .025 so its about 1.57-1.58), mem is at 2.7 - MEM IS AT 5:4 for DDR 434
- @ idle - Ambient 31C, System 35C, CPU 48.5C, PWM 40-42C
PCMark02:
CPU 7392
MEM 9219
HD 812

Sandra:
Mem Bandwidth 5068/5046
HD 48019

Ok, I have yet to run Prime 95 or memtest... how long should these take to run? I let memtest sit there for atleast 45 minutes and it didn't cycle once... no errors found in that time... and the servers were down with prime 95.

So, I do not have any temperatures for the cpu at "load". On a side note I am looking for a little higher cfm fan to see if I can bring temps down a degree or two... right now at 39db its putting out 53 cfm... suggestions on panaflow or smartfan II? (sfII seems loud though @ 49db and I refuse to put the tornado back in @ 57db lol). Will be ok to use 92mm if needed.

BUT WTF HAPPENED TO MY RAPTORS IN RAID 0????? As soon as I overclocked, it killed them! It takes longer to boot now... and the benches are less than stellar.

Anyway... when you oc'd did you lock the pci bus?

yep, agp/pci locked at 66/33

I posted too soon LOL, prime runs for about 10 minutes! doh!

I'm on it though... will decrease fsb until stable and will repost in next couple of hours after little memetst and prime95

Im kinda pissed because now my proccy wont do what my ram will... (at 5:4)

The IC7 reads temps way high. Knock ~ 15C off for actual. I think your temps are fine. Try bumping up your ram voltage to 2.8. Are you on 11 BIOS? Try 2.5-3-3-7 timings if you haven't already.

For memtest use the Thugsrook cheat code C-2-3-1-2-0-space bar. Let it run through all 11 loops a couple of times.

stable at 260 fsb... passed prime95 for first time... haven't tried memtest or any other...

Does anyone have any ideas why the hd scores have plummeted? What could cause such a dramatic decrease? Much of the system seems lethargic and as I have decreased the fsb, it seems less so.... am I bearing witness to the non 1:1 lag? Why would this affect hd scores? I can definitely be ok with 3.12 ghz... but what's up with the hd's?

I shouldnt have to bump mem voltage too high (already at 1.7) because at 271 fsb and 5:4, its only running at 217, its designed speed... but it seems like I have some temperature issues.... I have read about the "over temp" on the abit, but I just don't think its too far off... when it reads over 62 in full load, prime starts screwing up... I can witness an increase in temp and a prime95 crash... but prime finally ran clean at 260 fsb. But I will rig up my tornado and see if I can overclock better... just to make sure. I might have to fabricate a 100+ mm fan on top of the smart fan... can't handle the vantec.

This is all with the 1.1 bios... thugs said it blew... I didnt try and overclock with 1.0... but I need 1.1 because of the bootable hd fix.

This was obviously a clean install of the os, right??? Did you instal all the patches and updates??? There are reports of some patch actually doing this.......

Also one should always watch out when running in raid and such and ocing...This onboard chipsets may be easily effected by the increased fsb (even if locked), heat due to the fsb, and possible timing issues when communicating through the northbridge.....

I had a system act like that once and it turned ut to be a cpability issue with my i845d mobo and video card with capturing drivers installed....Same setup with just basic video only drivers and no issue. It would happen at a certain fsb. If I instaled everything fine at much higher fsb then installed the capture drivers much later the problem would happen the next restart....One thing I wasn't running a raid setup, just basic ata100...

Maybe it is a bios bug that needs to be fixed and thus you are stuck...It may have likely been the issue with mine...

It is very far off. No doubt about it. The same CPU/HS/Fan/FSB/Vcore reports 15 - 20C higher on this board than my last board. I run a 2.4B @ 3.06 GHz 1.575 Vcore. HS is an Alpha 8942. Fan is a Panaflo L1A (24 CFM). Prime95 load is ~ 68C with a 30C system temp. Real CPU temp is more like 50 - 55C. Dont go putting an even more noisy fan on it just because the board temp is off.

I dont run SATA, so I cant help you there. Try asking HERE Lots of good help and info there.
I would still try 2.8 for your mem voltage, but its your choice.

I noticed a slowdown all of a sudden with my BH7 / HighPoint RocketRAID 1520 / Raptors RAID0. Everything was smoking right along, then the Read speed dropped dramatically. I solved the issue by increasing the PCI Latency Timer from 64 to 120. Both Write and Read speeds are consistantly great again.

Hey dude...Your pcmark2002 score looks funny for being 3252mhz.....

2.4@3.15ghz (175fsb) @defailt vcore and memory at 438mhz ddr (CAS 2.5,3,3,7)

cpu: 7770
mem: 7612

At 3.24ghz the cpu was just into 8000 and memory was at 450mhz ddr and was near 7800....

I don't get why the cpu number is so low....Mine was just reran and I haven't booted system in 3 weeks...

I'm surprised you can even RAID your SATA drives with the 11 BIOS. Its supposed to cause a lot of problems with SATA RAID. That is probably the problem you're having now.

What was the best Memory Timings you were able to get at DDR434?
I have 2 sticks of HyperX PC3500 coming on Monday for my P4C800.
Hope they do better than my TwinX-3200LL.
Could only get DDR416 @ 2-3-2-6 @ 2.75vdimm with
them and they would not post at any timing at DDR432.

The SATA RAID problems with the 1.1 BIOS are only when using any adapter other than the new Abit Seriell2 with IDE hard drives on the Intel ICHR-5 SATA ports.
The 1.1 BIOS can't see the 2nd drive without a Seriell2.
The 1.0 BIOS doesn't have this problem.
Since he is running Raptors ("native" SATA drives) the problem probably lies elsewhere.

Ah, my bad then. I didn't realize it involved the adapter. Maybe I should flash my BIOS then

ya, I just had my sandra scores bump up to 55000.... I gotta go back in the bios and figure out what the hell I did... one time, I just changed my pci latency like techno suggested, and it brought sanda up... next couple times I boot windows, it hits 55000.... just made some more changes (lowering volts for everything) among others... and it's back in the high 40's.

I will do my best to figure out what the hell is wrong... will post back.

also, I could do 2337 @ 217 w/ 2 512 sticks... I was at 271 fsb w/ 2337 and 5:4.

ack, here goes guess and check... thanks so far though...

PS i changed the pci latency back to 32 immediately after my sandra scores increased and they stayed the same.... and that was the only thing I changed in the bios... so I have no freaking clue what the deal is...

oh, and on the cpu temps, I really was having a heating issue I think.... cpu fan was on backwards DOH!

Im a noob.... heh

This is on asus boards.. The guy got the exact same area I got... in the very upper 60's on sandra... I got 67412 right off the bat with default everything... now that I have begun overclocking, my hd score is hovering around 52k.

This should not be happening...

I decreased the fsb back to stock, and my hd score didn't improve... I am at a total loss... I have no idea what the problem is.... and i cant get verified on the abit boards... and the guy that wrote the article shown above has no idea what the problem is.... and he overclocked the IC7 for his review and didnt run into the performance decrease...

just scored 65k after installing sp1 and all other available updates....

I don't understand why.... I score 67 w/out sp1... overclock... and then have to install it to recreate my scores.

Must be some sort of driver error (heh probably caused by an unstable overclock... doh), but if anyone else has troubles... here's your answer...

RandySavage, what stripe size did you create your raid with? 16, 64 or 128kb?
also did you install Intel Application Accel Raid Edition?

yes installed iaa, at 128k...

the article I posted previously seems to indicate 16k is best for overall performance.... so, if you are in the position of re-doing your array, I would make it 16k...

but as I lower my fsb, my hd scores increase.... for me anyway, increasing the fsb past 250 seems to really upset the ich5...

I just ran 6.5 hours of prime95 @ 3.0ghz... nothing to write home about... but it's still an overclock...

gonna attach my tornado to my rheobus and on top of my sf.. hopefully it will cool another degree or two... I really want to hit the 271 fsb mark @ 3.252 ghz. So I can actually use the ram I paid for.... and I think everyone and their brother has hit it... so hopefully I wont be an exception.
