If I choose Compatible Mode, will there be any change in performance?

If I choose Enhanced Mode, will Linux & BSD install?

If I choose Enhanced Mode, setup my WinXP & 2K OS configs, and then find out that I need to activate to Compatible Mode, what will happen to my OS installs?

Thank you!

1. No they are the same speed,at least I dont notice any diff.make sure 32bit is enabled in bios for your hd.

2. You need to use compatibility mode for Dos,linux bsd,and to use ghost, enhanced is for win2k/XP.

3. You can switch from both modes & xp will not have any problems,I usualy use compatibility when in Dos (ghosting hd) then go back to enhanced after I am done.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone know the technical details as to what the BIOS actually changes with IDE interface?

And/or benchmarks during both modes?

Having trouble with have consistant recognition of the 80GB WD.

Pri SATA = 36GB SATA WD (Shows up under Third IDE Master in BIOS) - This will be my OS drive.

Pri IDE = 80GB PATA WD (Shows up under Primary IDE Master in BIOS) - This will be my data/backup drive, no OS on it.

I do not plan on using RAID at this time, as well as any additional IDE devices, can I safely disable the "OnBoard Promise Controller", if so, when I install Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro what drivers do I need to install with regard the chipset, etc.

Additionally, what drivers and order would be recommended for this motherboard.

I was thinking:

1 - OS Service Pack
3- Do I need IDE controller drivers?
4 - Intel Chipset drivers? (Which one?)
5 - Intel Application Accelerator (Recommended version?)
etc...

Thank you!

The 80GB is not being recognized consistantly. Sometimes it shows up in the BIOS during post and then the OS, but it does not make sense. Any ideas?
