Hey all, Anyone using Samsung memory on this board? If so, how is it going for you? I am especially interested in the overclocking of it. Does anyone know if the Samsung from google gear come with a heat spreader?

I just bought the Asus P4S533, 1.6A proc and a 512 stick of samsung 2700 speed DDR from Googlegear. No heat spreader. System boots and runs great, have not tried O'clock yet. Only weird thing is it sees (or perhaps XP does) all my drives as SCSI, but they're IDE.

EDIT: running stable so far @ 2133...ram seems fine.

Beware of Samsung DDR333 memory from Googlegear. It is Samsung Chips on a third party board, vice a Samsung board. Samsung chips on a Samsung board overclock better. There is a number of threads on this over at www.asusboards.com. Be advised Newegg has Samsung on Samsung DDR333 memory.

I have Samsung memory in my Asus P4S533, but I got it from newegg.com as I hear that googlegear.com was not true Samsung.

I currently have my 1.6a running at 2133Mz, I have not tried any higher. Runs perfect.

I bought some Samsung pc2700 ram from svcompucycle.com. They advertised it as Original Samsung but I got the one with the generic PCB. This ram sucks! It will run 187.5MHzx2 only w/ slowest timings and 2.9v:|

I also bought from svcompucycle but I received original Samsung chips on samsung pcb. I got the 512MB PC2700. I'm running 2,2,2,2 at standard volts, running my 1.6a @150 fsb rock solid at 2.4 (72+hrs Prime95) -- cpu temp hits 127F max w/standard cooling.

Well I just got one running but I keep going over it looking for anything like a jumper to change, The system runs stable and cool but man it is a dog after building Athlon's, Benched it at 1.6 and it was 6600, Man the old Epox 8KHA+ XP1700 blows it away with 10,000+ running stock, So I bumped it to 2133 and it benched 6800????????, Are you telling me a 8KHA+ will blow a 2.1 northwood 533 away running at 1.4 266, I haven't built any Pentiums in a while but I know the guy isn't going to like this computer so if their is someone that knows something about getting this board to run I would love to hear what he did, PS all jumpers were left jumper free

DoubleL, you can't compare the Athlon to the P4 clock to clock. I am setting up 3 rigs: high-end Athlon, high-end P4, and overclocked CuMine. I found an XP1600 running 1.55 gig (140 FSB) got a 10,160 3DMark2001 score. A Northwood at 2.117 gig (132 FSB) got 10,671. So the 'little' 1.55 gigger got a pretty good score. Both motherboards were running DDR and are running the same Ti 4600 card.

However that SIS score you got is pretty low compared to mine. The Northwood is running on a P4B266-E (Intel 845D) board, but I am running the Samsung PC2700 at 175 FSB (2600/2550 bandwidth) with the 3:4 divider. I also have a P4T-E rig with 2.3 gig Northwood and that one does 12,661 (at massive 3500/3500 memory bandwidth).

Funny thing is, the XP seens to run 3D more fluid than the P4, even with a lower 3DMark score (and 2000/2000 bandwidth). I am getting better motherboards with volt mods done to get higher on the XP1600. I am going to do more comparisons against the P4 when I get the Athlon up. I hope to hit around 1.6-1.65 gig on it.

But I found there is one caveat to Athlons: they are finicky to overclock. The need a lot of voltage and they run hot. And they are not as stable in 3D at what you think are stable FSBs, so you have to keep dropping it down. Overclocking CuMines are a piece of cake, and P4s are almost as easy.

I know that is a low score and like I said I haven't built any Pentiums in a while, I am running 512 mags of 2700 memory and a GeForce 3 in it, Have it set at 2.1 and funny thing is when I up the memory the score drops, I don't really care about 3DMark scores but most people that buy the computers do, I just ran some more and with the memory 1:1 and the bus at 133 it does the best, 6800, Ran the 8KHA+ XP1700 FSB 135, 9934, Dragon+ XP1900 FSB 135 10,600, the P4S533 run real stable and does everything you would want but I think I am going to have to eat it cause of that low score, I just can't get anymore speed out of it

I am also building a system on one of these boards soon. I think for the price Samsung is a good brand name at a good price. I am considering it but really am torn between it OR. Saying hell I am spending $1500+ on the system anyway why not go Corsair or Crucial pc2700 for an extra $50 or so.

I purchased my Samsung mem from NewEgg. It oc's verry well. Have not had one single problem with it. Didn't know you could get this mem with a "heat spreader", and what the hell is a "heat spreader"? I all ways called 'em heat sinks Any ways this is excelent memory and worth every penny and NewEgg priomises that its not a third party pcb with samsung chips.
