P4S533 problem already!

Next I would try using a PSI video card. See if that boots up for you. Check using a different keyboard also. I know these might sound "simple", but you would be surprised how often they are the culprit. Make sure you have NO other cards in the system. No sound card no NIC's nothing.

I have spent an hour looking for a solution only to find my keyboard had something resting on one of its damn keys! lol. (not sure I should have admitted to that one...).

You should also make sure that you "reset" the bios jumper on the motherboard. Make sure you completely disconnect the power supply when you reset the bios jumper though.

Let us know if you find the problem.

I've been PM-ing Dino but have not been able to help him -- I have same board same configuration (1.6A, Samsung PC2700) but I have been using my PCI Video card (all I have till my AIW 8500 arrives) I've had no problems, just nit's on LED's -- I never installed the AUX 12V conector -- I wonder if something could have fried due to both the ATXPWR and AUX 12V being installed at the same time?

it would be mentioned in manual.

Same here... haven`t paid for it but local store ordered it. This whole power connector "thing" has me concerned. Anyone know which plugs to use with a true P4 power supply?
Also, anyone know the PCI /AGP divider ratios on the board? Are you stuck with 42 PCI speed @ 166 FSB?

ok i tested the CPU on a different machine. BOOM the CPU works.
i guess its the board. #$%!
i cant believe there is something messed up on this board eventho it talks back to me. this is crazy. i am RMAing it.

Hi Dino remember me I was the one who stated all along it was probably not the cpu but the mobo I'm glad to see you have at least narrowed it down to the mobo. Hopefully your next mobo won't have the same problems.Good luck

i am getting a P4B266-C and its on its way. so when she comes we will see how things go , as for the P4S533 its getting an RMA and when it comes back i dunno what will i do. but thanks all for the help. i iwll keep you all updated.

Great choice on the Asus p4b266-c , I haven't used one but have read nothing but good things about that board and it is supposed to be a great overclocker.Congrats n your choice.

Asus has had such a great rep, but I think (trying to keep their prices competitive) they are getting just
as sloppy as all the others, based on a lot of forums info I've noticed.
I no longer buy Asus with confidence, and not based on this thread.

OK, let me jump I here, I had a P4S333, that would not post, no beeps no voice, no video, only power. I returned it for a P4S533, installed it and and it says ?CPU failed self test? much like what is happening to DinoGucci.

So do I realy have a bad CPU? DinoGucci, any resolution yet?

Also on the three power connector issue, I did connect all three the P4S333 (the board I returned) but on the new one I did not, it appears the EZPlug is just for PSU that don?t have the ATX12V1 connector. Would it fry the mobo if you connected all three, I don?t think so, or Asus would put a big warning.

yah , i didnt think that 3 plugs will be a problem either but i realy have no freakin clue what the problem is. i am just gonna RMA it and see what happens. i know it sucks cuz its gonna get delayed a week or even more but oh well. there is another board should be here tommorrow or so. i can play with till i figure stuff out.

I have talked numerous times to Asus reguarding my USB ports failing on me after 10 min's of use.. And some of the tech's even said to hook up all power connections.. Both the AUX12 and the EZ Plug.. So it doesn't hurt it either way.. Needless to say the only way we were able to resolve my USB issues on the P4S333 was to buy an addin card.. Good Luck everyone...

I havent had any problems with my USB ports on my P4S333..Im runing :>
1 gamepad, 1 joystick, 1 scanner, 1 mouse.

Im using an Enermax 431w PS..maybe your PC isnt supplying enough juice? just an idea

I believe that there is a significant issue with some of the P4S533 boards just released as I have spent the last few days trying to get 2 different ones to work. I ordered (1) from Googlegear and (1) from Newegg and also ordered matching P4 1.8GHz Northwoods to go with each. I have tried Crucial, Kingmax and Nanya memory sticks, 2 different chassis with Enermax and Antec 400w+ power supplies and both GeForce4 and Ati 8500 AGP video cards in every possible combination to the same constant result: "System failed CPU test" coming out of the speakers. (side note: I do like the POST reporter feature!)

I have been using the P4S333 model, so I'm very familiar with the power plugs and which ones to use. Also, I have verified that the new processors work fine in the P4S333 as well as an Abit SD7-533 that I have for testing, so it's NOT a processor issue.

I've tried clearing the BIOS, both jumper and jumper-free modes and verified all other jumpers are in the correct position (voltage etc.).

I've been building systems for many years and have used every major brand of mainboard, never touch a component without a grounding strap on etc. so I think I can say that this is a board problem with some certainty.

I would recommend folks hold off on purchasing one of these for a few weeks until the issue has been isolated.

DinoGucci, After I RMA'd the P4333, I got the P4533, and it has been perfect. I stalled XP Pro, did all the upgrades and have been running it now for serveral days and not one problem.

*** UPDATE ***

Thanks to all of the advice in the thread I started and the one started by DinoGucci - I have been able to get my original P4S533 up and running.
Let me share with you what I did so hopefully others aren't as frustrated.

Here are my part specs:
Pentium 2.0a
Asus P4S533
512 meg of Mushkin 2100 DDR High Performance
120 Gig Western Digital Drive
Thermtake Volcano 7+
Lian Li 60 USB
Enermax 430 PS w/ switch
Toshiba DVD
Mistumi 3.5"

I put the system together, it booted once and then after going into the BIOS to look around - disabled the onboard audio - rebooted and I didn't get a screen. I did have power and the LED on the MB was on.

First thing I did after getting home and reading through all the help was unplug the P4 connector that has the HD drive type end. So I had the ATX Power Connector and ATX12V1 (the 4 sqaured power connector) conencted. The system booted again and my BIOS was back to defaults. Ok. Didn't make any changes, killed the power and booted up again. BAM! It was dead again!!

So I checked and made sure nothing was grounded. For the hell of it, I plugged in the fan monitor for the Enermax power supply. Pulled that off and it worked as I slowly plug one more item back into the motherboard. Even the fan monitor for the CPU which works just dandy.

Now the Lian-Li USB has the nifty in front USB ports....well I plugged the leads into the ASUS and it won't boot again. Grrrrr! So I unplugged the Lian-Li leads and it worked. Two USB ports is not something I wanted to live with, so I slapped in the USB card from ASUS. It booted and I was back in biz.

So to sum it up, connect only the two standard P4 power connectors and unless the Enermax PS I have is evil bad - don't plug in the PS fan control. And beware of using USB connectors other than ASUS.

Agreed, I add an additional to ports like the two that come with board, and while it booted fine, the first time I plugged in something the machine locked up and I had to reset.

So where can I get the Asus 2 port USB connector/ribbon cable that came with the board?

BTW, I run an Antec 350W PSU with my P4b533, and have not had any problems.

to clear things out. the mobo had a broken CPU SOCKET. so i rmaed it and i gotta another new one.
i tried it and it works fine. its also for sale if anybody is interested.
