P4S533.. startup problems.

A person I know is trying to get his new p4 system up and running. He has the P4S533 motherboard and a p4 1.8a. When he tries to boot the computer up, it will allow him to boot into the cmos, but not past that point. It tells him there is no cpu installed. If he takes the cpu out and tries it in another motherboard, it works perfectly. He RMA'd the motherboard, but it was returned to him because they said it wasnt broken. His bios detects his cpu, ram, hd, and everything else just fine. Any idea what the problem could be?

Try setting it to "Halt on no errors" , also set the vcore to manual and 1.55v, the FSB to 100fsb and the memory ratio to go with your ram (3:4 for DDR266 or 3:5 for DDR333 for 3:6 for DDR400).

I had the same problem. Cheap power supplies with low 12 volt rail readings (below 11.7) will trigger that message even if the voice monitor is disabled. Get a better power supply.

And don't forget to reflash the BIOS with the latest from ASUS. It can also cause your problem. o1die is right on with the PSU also. Feature rich boards like my P4B533-e say that a minimum PSU for a base sytem is 220 watts. Enable all the goodies on the board and the base ups to 300 watts. And thats still without a second HD or CDR burner. OWCH. Who would of thought 300 watts was not enough?

I'd also opt for the p/s. I have a P4B266 with a 1.6a and it would boot to the bios every once in awhile on start up. I finally replaced the p/s, a TigerPro 300w that came with the case, with an Enermax 350w and it hasn't done it since. It would also restart instead of shutdown at times prior to changing the p/s.
